THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Any thoughts on the new 'Top Gear' show on Sunday night with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc.

IMHO: A pathetic flop. We had been wondering what it was going to be like but when we switched on, we couldn't even stay watching it to the end.

Haystack - 30 May 2016 14:56 - 71337 of 81564

It was awful. No chemistry between Evans and Le Blanc. Stupid drive in two Reliant Robins to Blackpool then a contest between a Jeep and Land Rover and up a mountain in them. Star in a car again. Still got the Stig. It was all heavily scripted and Le Blanc is not a presenter. Evans shouting all the time. Almost no humour. Hated by all the papers with one reviewer saying he wanted to punch himself in the face for watching it.

Rubbish ,i thought they would try to do something new ,it was embarrassing ,Evens trying to be Clarkson using a lot of the same speak , doubt it will last long.

the report below dating back to 2012 is one of the reasons i really do not like chris evans .......

Golf bosses ban Chris Evans for life from prestigious celebrity tournament weeks before he was due to defend title

ExecLine - 31 May 2016 10:53 - 71342 of 81564

The Radio 2 host was barred over allegations he lied about his handicap before entering the prestigious Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The tournament attracts stars like TV legend Bruce Forsyth and movie star Michael Douglas.

Evans and playing partner Nick Dougherty won the team trophy with a score of a massive 40 under par.

He claimed he was a 15-handicapper, but that was cut to ten. Describing his win, he said: “There were were rumblings of dissent. We finished 40 under par, which I’ve never heard of before. But that was a combination of mine and Nick’s best score on each hole over four rounds.”

.........................

Hmmm? That seems to be a funny way to derive a joint score so as to assess the overall winner of the competition, don'tcha think? It's highly likely to throw up a weird total score - and in Evans and Dougherty's case, well, it did.

But to then accuse him (Evans) of lying about his handicap and do so AFTER he's won? And then ban him? Hmmm?

cynic - 31 May 2016 11:29 - 71343 of 81564

i never mentioned the why :-)

golf is very much a sport played on trust
in this instance, it would seem that chris evans "finessed" his handicap, and obviously quite significantly

there are always entrants with "sharp" handicaps, so to incur a lifetime ban implies something pretty serious

btw, the amateurs in the dunhill always play off 2/3rds of their lowest club h'cap
hence 15 becomes 10

TANKER - 31 May 2016 13:34 - 71344 of 81564

ISTANBUL, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has described birth control as a form of “treason,” saying it threatened the country’s bloodline.

Erdogan urged a newly married couple at their wedding late on Sunday to have at least three children to help boost Turkish population figures, a common refrain from the president, who worries a declining birth rate may undermine economic growth.

“For years they committed a treason of birth control in this country, seeking to dry up our bloodline. Lineage is very important both economically and spiritually,” he told the couple after serving as their witness at the wedding. A video of the speech was posted on the mainstream Radikal news website.

Last month, Erdogan, a devout Muslim, said it was unnatural to consider women and men equal and said feminists did not understand the importance of motherhood. In 2012, he sought to effectively outlaw abortion, but later dropped the plan amid a public outcry.

rent control
an interesting subject, and at face value can look a great idea to help those who can't even afford to move from home to small artisan businesses that need low cost workshops and the like

unfortunately, as can now be seen in lisbon, it means that landlords cannot or do not want to afford to keep their properties in A1 condition ...... more importantly, when these controls are removed as inevitably they are, it's like a champagne cork out of a bottle

Haystack - 31 May 2016 14:51 - 71355 of 81564

As usual TANKER takes gullibility to new levels. There is no plan to seize Swedish houses. The story is about a left wing social worker calling for this to be done. There is absolutely no chance of it happening in reality as owning a second weekend/holiday home is very common in Sweden. There would be a mass uprising if they attempted to do it.
