As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).
For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version
except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.
As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.
NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.
The new version can be found on the following link:
http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php
NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.
Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile
Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Ian
I think, that for the moment, any and all of our comments as to what we are experiencing are so individually specific, unthorough, and almost entirely worthless.
Surely, as a professional web site designer, you have a check list as to what to look for on here and will surely test it out on all the popular browsers (Opera, Firefox, IE, Chrome) before putting your web site alterations and improvements to the public domain?
If you do have such notes and you let us be privy as to what we should be looking for - and also how exactly how you would like us to respond with our answers (eg. browser, version, URL address, how many stocks on the StockWatch page, etc, etc, etc, etc., then we might get somewhere better and quicker.

Ian,
Just for the record, it's no different in either Safari, Firefox, Opera or Google browsers on my Mac.
Stockwatch is to much over to the right.

I think I know what you mean RB, but I fail to see what 35 years of right wing outfits have done for the populous of Europe.

Hi,
We are trying to fix issues in the stockwatch as they arise. We have fixed many issues today. We currently don't have anything major as far as we can see. There were a couple of regression bugs which have been resolved, one of them being the Java security settings errors people were having this morning. This has been resolved.
Regarding the margins, this is because all the new pages (shareprice, trades, forward diary etc) are fixed width rather than full width. If your screen is wider than the content, there will be an even sized margin either side of the content (look at the header and footer). As the stockwatch ticker itself can be wider than the normal width, it has been allowed to break out to the right hand side. There has been no obvious solution for this problem but if the consensus is that this page needs to break from the standard page width then it may happen.

George,
If you can get rid of that gap on the left without affecting the Stockwatch graphics as they are (which is good enough) then all well and good, but if it means altering the graphics as they are to accommodate no left gap then keep as is.
Just my two penny worth.
Ed: That's on the html version.

My problem is that when I try and open my stockwatch list keeps showing a message stating 'This watchlist has no Epic codes' The orange banner that used to be there which I could click for MoneyAM's own version instead of Java has now disappeared and when I click on the Beta link it shows an error message 'Status not connected - event source response has a status 204. No content that is not 200. Aborting the connection.
I probably had 40 or 50 stocks in my stockwatch list is this what is causing the problem. If so how can I reload a smaller number if they have somehow been deleted by MoneyAM?
This problem is identical on two different computers one running Windows 7 the other running Windows XP (I know it is an old operating system) both previously worked well using Firefox, Google and Opera - any suggestions would be most welcome.

Stan, i only use a 10" laptop screen and the margin to the left of the news button is about quarter of an inch. Not excessive to my view, I also use firefox on XP with no problems. On my desktop comp I get the full stock watch easily on the screen. This would depend I would think on how many columns you have open. Maybe my laptop compensates on margins better than desktops, to be honest I don't use the desktop often and haven't checked the margin. I have 14 columns open not including the news, charts, trades ect. column and they fit on the 15" screen (I think) ok, will have to check.,.

Thanks Stan, PW and Carnell.
Inverstoree, we still have the original stockwatch data from the old system so watchlists can be recovered. Maybe your stocks didn't migrate across properly. If you tell me the watchlist name, I can find your stocklist for you. Can you click Edit on the watchlist and see that there are stocks. Potentially that is the reason you're not getting a connection. 40-50 stocks is not excessive, but zero stocks won't work.
The old page and the old beta page are dead and should redirect you to /stockwatch. If you can still access the old pages, please let me know how (post the url you are using). Data edited through those pages will be lost because they are going into an now defunct system.
The Live Stream option is the same as was the beta stockwatch and is now the default. Java Stream is what used to be the default and Snapshot is the equivalent of Turn Streaming Off as it used to be.
Thanks

George
This morning when I tried to edit my watchlist it was empty so I deleted it (unfortunately before taking a note of its name which for some reason had assumed the names of the first few stocks that I had included). The default watchlist seems to be working normally and at some stage I will try and recreate the list that had evolved over a number of years. In future it would be helpful and sensible for MoneyAM to provide advance notice to users of what you are planning to do, the consequences that are likely to occur as a result. This simple step would allowing clients to take steps to preserve any data lists created. Simply printing off a list or making a note of the watchlist may have saved me hours and hours of wasted time and effort!

Investoree,
I've got your stock list. I need to work out why yours didn't go across to the new format. Most have migrated fine but there must be a reason yours hasn't done so. Do you want me to post your list here or would you prefer it privately via email?

All,
I am closing this thread to new postings as the system is out of beta now. If you do have any issues please add them to the normal bugs thread:
