How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Will keep my eye on that in the future, a big learning curve for me, am used to scalping

with the snooker the longer games (ie upto 9 or more) provide good trading ops, however the premier league where it is 6 frames, win lose or draw provide huge swings but can be quite scary.

the frame by frame betting is good if like today the volume is high, however on low volume you dont get enough opportunities to trade out so check the volume before getting involved

Fundy, thanks for that, taking notes of those things for the future. I can see now
the advantages of the Pro platform so must get upgraded, being able to place limits with offset and trailing stop a big advantage for scalping

Morning all

England lost the toss and immediately used their supersub so its 12 vs 11 again. No early wickets so looks like we'll be chasing another big total

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 06:48 - 7185 of 10502

a decent start from England and 2 wickets in 2 balls

WOODIE - 19 Dec 2005 06:51 - 7186 of 10502

morning fundy 2 quick wickets, england are in 7th place at the moment in the odi table they need to get in the top 5 to secure a place in next years world tournement otherwise they have to face having to play more matches to qualify.

WOODIE - 19 Dec 2005 06:53 - 7187 of 10502

going out at 7 be lucky?

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 06:55 - 7188 of 10502

morning Woodie

3 wickets now and looking good - made a nice few quid selling the spread so got some profit to play with

thought it was top 6 that qualified automatically

WOODIE - 19 Dec 2005 06:58 - 7189 of 10502

fundy well done bob willis gave the above before the game started is it 6 teams that make up the tounement?

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 07:05 - 7190 of 10502

Woodie

8 team tournament and I think 6 qualify automatically and then the other 2 come via qualifying matches

WOODIE - 19 Dec 2005 07:07 - 7191 of 10502

fundy good luck for rest of match of out now.

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 09:32 - 7192 of 10502

Pak 209 all out

much better display by England in the field though the pitch is definitely as good as the previous ones.

England price looks a little short with the danger of losing a couple of wickets to the new ball

Morning Steve

Finally managed to get online since Sat lunchtime!

We finally moved into the new place this weekend and BT being efficient as ever has taken over 2 weeks to get connected. Should be done in next few days. How long does it really take to flick on a switch!!

So, no line means no trading! Arghhhh!!

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 10:07 - 7194 of 10502

Hi bak

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 10:51 - 7195 of 10502

England making a mess of things - 1.3 was way too low at the halfway point

bakko - 19 Dec 2005 11:07 - 7196 of 10502

Once again, Eng really know how to turn a decent position into a diabolical one!

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 11:18 - 7197 of 10502

Makes great fare for trading though Bak :-)

been very lucky too as Flintoff has been dropped and Trescothick nicked one behind but was given not out

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2005 12:30 - 7198 of 10502

Scripophilist - 19 Dec 2005 12:35 - 7199 of 10502
