"Arfen"!!! Are they havin' a larf?!

HARRYCAT - 28 Jan 2010 08:47 - 726 of 3666

Business Financial Newswire
"Afren has entered into a joint venture agreement with Oriental Energy Resources and Energy Equity Resources for the exploration, appraisal and development of OML 115 offshore Nigeria.

This adjoins Afren and Oriental's Ebok and Okwok fields Ebok and Okwok development area.

Afren will acquire 81.25% of EER's 40% legal interest in OML 115 - 32.5% - under a farm-in agreement.

Afren has identified significant exploration potential at the deeper Qua Iboe level, a regionally prolific reservoir productive at the nearby Zafiro field

Gross mean resources potential estimate of 270 mmbbls. Afren said the agreement extends its partnership with Oriental on the Ebok and Okwok appraisal and developments/.

The total upfront cash cost is US$6m including signature bonus and licence extension fees, in addition to the requirement to drill one firm exploration well at an estimated cost of US$30m. Drilling will begin with one exploration well which is scheduled for H2 2010 "

cynic - 28 Jan 2010 09:54 - 727 of 3666

AFR being surprisingly dull all things considered

Time Traveller - 28 Jan 2010 09:59 - 728 of 3666

They're spending money and committing to more expense with the agreement. More potential but nothing concrete and so investors hold back to do some additional research to find out if it was a good deal or not.

mitzy - 28 Jan 2010 11:47 - 729 of 3666

Timing the bottom is impossible, but you can buy value for a longterm hold : this is a good one...I'm expecting at least 150p before the end of the year...we need a little bit of good news to turn ftse and sorts around.

dealerdear - 28 Jan 2010 17:45 - 739 of 3666

I wasn't criticising the buying of the share but rather more the attitude that supports it. Around 93p does indeed look as though it may be a place to buy but AFR will simply follow the market and if we are going to double-bottom then christ knows where this is going. What did it reach before, around 18p or so?

However, anyone who thinks that buying a stock is 'easy money' will surely get burnt to a cinder in this market. I seem to remember Marni having a similar view and unless he was banned from the site, no doubt he is now trying to find shelter in a field somewhere!

niceonecyril - 28 Jan 2010 19:14 - 740 of 3666

Warren Buffet buys when he feels the SP is at bargain levels.
Morgan Stanley has increased their holdings crossing the 3%(3.45%) threshold.

This company is totally different company to when they went to 20p. The last price rise and fall was based around the oil price mostly and yes the markets.

Not many oil and gas companies with prospects over the next two years and beyond as good as afren. 100,000 bopd by end of 2012! 3.50 - 5.00 imho.

P.S My portfolio was up 93% last year. Burn`t bigtime.
