Hi, guys.
Further to 5 enquiries re: past golfing threads plus 3 requests for me to start a new one, just thought I would get the ball rolling pre-Xmas as the long winter nights draw in. So, now let us talk amongst ourselves about ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING CONCERNING the wonderful pastime of: GOLF.
Herewith I start this in good nature to encourage "friendly banter" devoid of hostility amongst fellow golfers: whether they be Pro's, Category One players, average club players, high handicappers or even weekend hackers! Let's all have a friendly chat here...

Cynic, Mobile phones are banned bigtime where I play pending severe reprimands for purportraitors! Thought this was fast becoming the norm these days especially in the clubhouse?

speaking on them is one thing, and i agree about 97% of the time ..... However, messages are silent .... as is my ring tone!

But still an unwelcomed distraction for some players, Cynic. On course: for emergencies only, IMHO.

only have with me when playing typical (un)friendly - e.g. midweek ..... and as phone does not ring, no distraction for others.

Not a golfer myself - but spotted this on another site - and purely by chance spotted this thread. I believe the offer to be genuine - although I have not tried it out myself
18 holes of Golf at a choice of 30 top clubs only 3.95 or less delivered
Go to www.buyagift.co.uk and search golf, buy the "round of golf for one" for 7.50 and use discount code 953195 to get 5 off which makes it 3.95 with shipping.
This seems to be a pretty good deal to me. Go through quidco to get another 0.47 off, making it an amazing 3.47 for an 18 hole round of golf. Only conditions are after 1pm on weekdays.
And you can play at some great courses around the uk, voucher is valid for 10 months from date of purchase.
Hope some of you can enjoy this.

Had the captain's drive in yesterday preceded by Texas Scramble. Interesting format: 5 players, no constaints on how many drives but each player had to play 3 second shots (not his own drive). 5 vets but finished level par less one-eighth of total handicaps which was 11.5. Came 5th out of 22 which was good enough for a bottle of bubbly: well only 4 prizes but played with captain who wanted to present a prize to himself! Past captains had to putt out their year with a guttie ball and ancient hickory putter. Worst score had to buy the drinks: yours truly down in two from 10 yards of course so then proceded to take advantage of the free Winter Pims. Course only just playable but the rule was to use green mats 'through the green' which made a lot of sense.
Any news on the MoneyAM challenge? I hope its going to happen!

Midway through the Badminton Season so my clubs are hybernating atm. Hardly played golf at all < 7 weeks. BTW Shark is coming out of retirement tomorrow (part time job). Well, times are hard these days and, having weighed in at a disgraceful 14.7 stone on 1st. of Jan., was in serious danger of degenerating into a fat, old slob devoid of self respect! :o(
