THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Well, that explains it. No wonder the remainders lost.

The Remoaners do have the better brands

Just had a call from the local Merc' garage where my car is in for a 'B' service:

"We have detected a 'warning error' on your dashboard. The error code tells us that the Mass Air Flow Sensor needs replacing. The normal cost for this sensor is £728.90 but Mercedes have offered to pay 'blah blah blah' of this for you which leaves you with £254.65 to find yourself. Would you therefore like us to replace this sensor? The labour charge for this is very small and this job can be done whilst we are servicing the vehicle."

"Hmmm? Well, yes, I suppose you had better go ahead with it then."

Now, I'm an avid watcher of "Wheeler Dealers" so I just wondered if there is an 'after market' availability for this sensor (1) and I also had a look on YouTube to see how hard a job it would be to swap this sensor out (2).

Ans for 1: £54 - £160 depending.

Ans for 2: Hmmm? I might get my hands a bit dirty (Marigolds?) but I reckon a monkey could easily do the swap labour task. On YouTube it looks pretty straightforwards and needs the minimum of tools.

Problem, though: Cancelling the Warning Error on the dashboard. This needs a mechanic with a Code Reading Machine.

Fortunately, I have the car Warrantied with Warranty Direct and only have to pay the first £50. It's just a bit over 3.5 yrs old now and so out of the Merc' Warranty.

Apparently, sometimes these Mass Air Flow Sensors can be cleaned with, say, WD40. I dare bet the Merc' mechanics didn't bother to try that though.

So why post this stuff on here?
Well, my cynical mind is telling me this stuff is all a bit of a scam. What do you think?

cynic - 10 Aug 2016 16:45 - 73016 of 81564

dealerships often stiff you
if you're out of warranty, your local garage may fix for a fraction of the price
however, you then may need to get mercedes to boot it up

You can buy a merc scanner on eBay for less than £15. It will give you any fault codes and clear the engine check message. Just check the scanner protocol for your motor.

Thanks for the comments guys. Most welcome.

The cost to me is the first £50. The rest is covered by my Warranty Direct car warranty. This costs me £138 per quarter.

The car, by the way, is a '62 E350 CDI BlueTec AMG Sport Estate and I should have swapped it before now - but it is absolutely immaculate and I love it.

Police are investigating claims that a teenage British tennis player was poisoned at Wimbledon last month.
Gabriella Taylor, 18, spent four days in intensive care after becoming unwell during her girls' quarter-final match.
Scotland Yard says it has received an allegation of poisoning with intent to endanger life or cause grievous bodily harm.
Apparently, she contracted leptospirosis, a rare bacterial disease usually transmitted through rat urine.
Now I remember an email going around in Brazil some years ago about a similar case. A man had died after drinking from a can of coke, the lid of which had been infected by rats while in storage.

VICTIM - 11 Aug 2016 08:49 - 73020 of 81564

I wonder if there will be any legal route taken against anyone . Supplier or Wimbledon .

If you go to a club......keep an eye on your drink at all times......

Haystack - 11 Aug 2016 09:27 - 73022 of 81564

Because cans and bottles stored outside

We all tend to drink out of a can, whether it be a beer or a soft drink. Just look at the top before opening and make sure there are no stain marks. If I have made you really pananoic with the thought, pour into a clean glass.

I ALWAYS carry a retractable 24ct gold straw...Its for the man who has everything..

There a lot of paranoia and speculation about this incident, but it could be
something or nothing, and who knows where she's been putting her mouth?..

cynic - 11 Aug 2016 09:47 - 73025 of 81564

that might give you thrush but very unlikely to put you in hospital seriously ill

iturama - 11 Aug 2016 09:51 - 73026 of 81564

Ha Ha. Very sensible. I even suck my grapefruit through a straw. Never know where it has been...

My understanding is as follows:

Human saliva is full of bacteria and enzymes and assists in the digestive process.

Dog saliva has no enzymes, not much bacteria (depending upon the when the dog nibbled/ate its last dead rabbit and how old said rabbit was when the dog got to it) and only assists the digestive process by allowing the food to slide down the dog's gullet more easily than it otherwisde would.

So it might be healthier not to snog fellow humans and, if you know where your dog has been and what it has been sniffing, enjoy some mutual dog kissing/face licking with your dog instead.

Hmmm?

Did I just type out the above? It's probably a load of crap.

ExecLine - 11 Aug 2016 10:28 - 73029 of 81564

Also, the pH of the liquid in a human's stomach is about 5. Whereas in a dog's stomach, the pH is about 1 or 2.

cynic - 11 Aug 2016 10:41 - 73030 of 81564

surely that's a pic of michael heseltine

ExecLine - 11 Aug 2016 11:01 - 73031 of 81564

No. That is definitely not a picture of the 'Tarzan' we all know and love.

The URL address of the image tells you it's actually an image of a 'conceptual man'. So he is probably drinking grapefuit juice through a straw to help make himself conceive.

grannyboy - 11 Aug 2016 11:08 - 73032 of 81564

"surely that's a pic of michael heseltine"

No don't think it is, even though the guys 'drinking' from a gratefruit,
since the referendum result Heseltine has being wearing a sour puss
face giving the impression of him sucking on bitter lemons..
