He may look like he should be pickled himself, but I like Eric Pickles. He says it as it is:

In a hard-hitting report, Sir Eric Pickles says there is evidence of pressure being put on vulnerable members of some ethnic minority communities in elections.
He says women and young people in particular have been urged to vote according to the will of elders, especially in communities of Pakistani and Bangladeshi backgrounds.
Presenting an action plan to the new Prime Minister Theresa May on electoral fraud, he attacks the failures of town halls, police and election watchdogs to detect, prevent and prosecute election fraud.
And the former Tory chairman Communities and Local Government Secretary claims it is politically correct sensibilities that have led to the state turning a blind eye to corruption in town halls.
In his report, which contains dozens of recommendations on stopping election fraud, Sir Eric attacks the Metropolitan Police for failing to follow up the election court's ruling with criminal charges.

We all know it is going on. Time to stop pussyfooting around, put multi-culturalism in the bin where it belongs and make these people behave, or prison. And ban the burka. Silly idea that shouldn't be allowed in any civilised country.

i can see no objection to women wearing a burka if that is what they choose, any more than one should condemn dreadlocks or the wearing of birkenstocks

and b4 you all start, no i do not think women should be allowed to hide behind a burka in court and nor (more arguably) when teaching in multicultural schools

Accident at Olympics?

I think that is where C has his head when he talks about the burka. A repugnant archaic practice. I have no problem with the hijab, tolerate the niqab but the burka on the high street is a no no for me. A ban is one EU regulation I would applaud. Whatever happened to the guy that escaped from surveillance in a burka?

my only objection to the burka is that it can indicate a considerable level of subservience, but i see no reason to find it "repugnant" any more than people who are grossly obese or dress as goths or as do the orthodox hasidic jews

btw, as i understand it, the burka is not a koranic instruction, but more heeding a social conformity among many muslims

Anyone watching the Olympics , finding it hard to concentrate as the BBC are switching over events too often as well as switching between bbc1 and bbc 2 every 30 mins or so . Why can't they designate bbc2 to the Olympics and be done with it . I know there's a massive number of of events , maybe trying too many .
