Timing the bottom is impossible, but you can buy value for a longterm hold : this is a good one...I'm expecting at least 150p before the end of the year...we need a little bit of good news to turn ftse and sorts around.

dealerdear - 28 Jan 2010 17:45 - 739 of 3666

I wasn't criticising the buying of the share but rather more the attitude that supports it. Around 93p does indeed look as though it may be a place to buy but AFR will simply follow the market and if we are going to double-bottom then christ knows where this is going. What did it reach before, around 18p or so?

However, anyone who thinks that buying a stock is 'easy money' will surely get burnt to a cinder in this market. I seem to remember Marni having a similar view and unless he was banned from the site, no doubt he is now trying to find shelter in a field somewhere!

Warren Buffet buys when he feels the SP is at bargain levels.
Morgan Stanley has increased their holdings crossing the 3%(3.45%) threshold.

This company is totally different company to when they went to 20p. The last price rise and fall was based around the oil price mostly and yes the markets.

Not many oil and gas companies with prospects over the next two years and beyond as good as afren. 100,000 bopd by end of 2012! 3.50 - 5.00 imho.

P.S My portfolio was up 93% last year. Burn`t bigtime.

required field - 29 Jan 2010 09:35 - 742 of 3666

I bought some Afren shares at 14p and for a moment they went lower than that...I think 11p for a brief moment...seems crazy now, seemed crazy then !......I don't think we shall have a drop back to another doubledip but pullbacks like this one were bound to come along.

blanche - 29 Jan 2010 09:45 - 743 of 3666

Rf gr8t buy at 14p. I think the lowest i paid was 22p. I hope you still hold those 14p shares. Long way to go here.

required field - 29 Jan 2010 09:56 - 744 of 3666

I've bought and sold along the way but I've always retained a very strong foothold in Afren.....staying put for the moment : to make me sell : there would have to another big, big bank crisis coming and I don't think there is one....

blanche - 29 Jan 2010 10:04 - 745 of 3666

Agreed no bank crisis, Steady year ahead. Sp,s only moving north on solid news. Of which Afren will have loads.

niceonecyril - 29 Jan 2010 10:12 - 746 of 3666

Yes i recall you as one of the few at those levels,as far as the present SP is concerned it looks a bargain? This is imo down ti th present market,on one of the threads i warned that news of a market cirrection was on the way.It just shows the power of rhose who can.
So hopefully we're nearing the bottom and things will steady, remebering soon to enter the FSTE250 and 15k bopd is not that far off

I think it's premature to write off another banking crisis, but good luck with AFR.

dealerdear - 29 Jan 2010 11:48 - 748 of 3666

There is something fundamentally going on in the markets at the moment irrespective of company prospects. I thought after Xmas the market had decided that we weren't going back down but now I am not so sure. On that basis AFR could go anywhere as the big institutions short sell. I still try to trade shares but wouldn't try and hold anything long-term until the picture becomes clearer.

required field - 29 Jan 2010 11:52 - 749 of 3666

I reckon that at some stage...can't say when : we are going to have the scramble to get in day.....could come at anytime....

niceonecyril - 29 Jan 2010 12:21 - 750 of 3666

DD i reduced my portfolio by roughly 40%,inhind sight it would have been better at
100%. Tin hat time ne thinks?
cyril

dealerdear - 29 Jan 2010 12:38 - 751 of 3666

I agree 100% cyril. Unfortunately I still hold loads so I have 2 tin hats on.

jimmy b - 29 Jan 2010 12:40 - 752 of 3666

I doubled my holding here some time back ,so i'm sitting in a Tank..

hlyeo98 - 29 Jan 2010 14:32 - 753 of 3666

I think AFR is a buy now.

halifax - 29 Jan 2010 15:36 - 754 of 3666

Might be worth waiting for their next trading statement, cash generation is the key to their success.

HARRYCAT - 01 Feb 2010 09:09 - 755 of 3666

Am tempted to get back in at about this level. Oil price ($72.89) not helping any of these companies, but chart support is round about 85p.
