How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

sorry for the delay, yes the risk reward is far better on laying the strong side imo. firstly you only need one goal not two for the bet to go significantly in your favour and secondly you actually benefit from the goal being scored later (better lay off price) whereas if you back the outsider if they score say 2 mins from time, their price will prob not fall below your original back price

Fundy.......thanks and i guess you would also have a more liquid book with the stong team to get you filled. On the Utd game before the off there was when i looked 1.08m matched but only 22k was for brum, so that alone should have been my clue

indeed, the liquidity on the line is often critical to the trade. obviously the higher levels of liquidity will be on the shorter prices hence it is usually better value laying there rather than backing the high odds

see the Aussie price is already down to 1.5 - would like to see it pushed down towards 1.4 asap please :-)

Yes i've now greened up 1.52, was tempted to back SA at 17 but watching for now

i assume you would be backing SA as a trade? as personally cannot see any scenario in which they can win the game. With Ntini injured cant see anyway they can bowl Aus out for less than 250 and cant see them chasing 300+ on this pitch (1 score of 300 to win a test at this ground in last 20 yrs) espcially with the variable bounce and the aussies with 2 leggies

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:01 - 7375 of 10502

would have been a good trade with Hodge going quickly lol

Cloudbase - 29 Dec 2005 00:05 - 7376 of 10502

Yes was just for a trade lol, Aus not drifted out far though

Big blocking trade on the lay side now

Evening again guys,

Just taking a look at the cricket as not working tomorrow.

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:07 - 7378 of 10502

Aus price will only drift if the likelihood of less than 300 target becomes a possibility - another quick wicket may do this but otherwise going to need 2 more - wickets for less than 50 runs

Hi bak

you with us for the duration ?

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 00:15 - 7380 of 10502

My bodyclock hasn't adjusted to the small hours yet so may only be be able to do a few hours but if I can jump on a decent trade and it gets interesting then the excitement will probably keep me going!

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:34 - 7381 of 10502

theres not much excitement about it today till the last session i dont think

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 00:37 - 7382 of 10502

Got a small amount in at 1.6 on the Aussies a few overs.

Could well turn out to be a slowish session with Aus trying to build a decent lead without losing more wickets.

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:42 - 7383 of 10502

sold session runs at 78 for a bit of interest

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 00:47 - 7384 of 10502

What time will lunch be?

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:48 - 7385 of 10502

lunch is 1.30 our time, play resumes at 2.10, then tea at 4.10 to 4.30, scheduled close 6.30

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 00:50 - 7386 of 10502

Thanks

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:53 - 7387 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 00:59 - 7388 of 10502

nice injury delay - should knock an over off before lunch :-)

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 01:01 - 7389 of 10502

I'm going to have to look into opening up a sports SB account myself.

Ouch...The blow on the ankle looks painful plus the break in play must have benefitted you too. Well done.
