How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Only sitting on a small profit at the moment. That's if the aussies don't lose any wickets before lunch.

I'll close out my position at lunch as I always find that odds drift out during the breaks.

Nice 6 by Symonds!

Bak

just as he hit that i posted on the bf forum "will he bat in one day mode or test match rabbit in the headlights style" - question answered in 2 balls lol.

Aussies positive intent looks like declaration should be 10 overs after tea, leaving 20ish overs tonight - draw price may start to drift a little from here

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 02:34 - 7398 of 10502

Took advantage of the very slight drift in odds during lunch and picked up a couple of biggish scalps on top as well so in a good position on Aus

Wish id taken a position on the spread - they were quoting 102/107 said i thought it was too low but would look to buy later in the session, spread quote now 137/142

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 02:38 - 7400 of 10502

nice trading Bak :-)

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 02:44 - 7401 of 10502

session spread now 145/150 - ouch

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 02:55 - 7402 of 10502

That 6 takes the Aussies to 300+ lead

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 02:55 - 7403 of 10502

good fun session to watch - prices not moving at all lol

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 02:59 - 7404 of 10502

spread now 165/170 - really kicking myself on that one!!!

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 03:00 - 7405 of 10502

Great cricket at the moment.

Did a big scalp at 1.52 with an offset at 1.51. Seemed to have taken forever to fill. Over 20+ runs!!

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 03:01 - 7406 of 10502

top bombing

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 03:02 - 7407 of 10502

There goes another for his 50. Excellent innings!

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 03:03 - 7408 of 10502

market very confused - runs at this rate should be shortening Aus price as they will have longer to bowl SA out however they are making the pitch look very benign and a lot easier for SA to survive on

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 03:19 - 7409 of 10502

I expect there may be quite a bit of a move in the first few overs of the saffers innings, as people evaluate how the wicket is playing (it is impossible to tell the way these 2 are batting)

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 03:23 - 7410 of 10502

I'll certainly be around to take advantage of any odds rerating later.

Top cricket going on at present. So glad I stayed up.

Wicket down but well done Hayden.

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 03:25 - 7411 of 10502

Those 2 wickets may well accelerate the declaration

superb batting display

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 03:28 - 7412 of 10502

Aussies declare

Fundamentalist - 29 Dec 2005 03:30 - 7413 of 10502

look at the change in prices - saffers gone from 40 to 15 and draw from 3.3 to 4.0

grabbed some of the 1.49 on the aussies

bakko - 29 Dec 2005 03:40 - 7414 of 10502

Steve....Nice bit of trading to pick up some at 1.49

I've just greened up for a profit of 110.59. I think I'll settle on this as have worked quite hard to get to this position considering the odds haven't really shifted too much.
