THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Yawn...What's your point Hays? We are far from a GE.
Of more interest:
A Labour source said "progressive" leaders from across the EU would be invited to a dinner with the shadow cabinet, followed by a conference featuring speakers from "parts of society that have not had their voices heard in the Brexit debate" including business and trade unions. Suggestions are invited as to what will be on the menu. Dinner menu that is, because the rest will be totally irrelevant. My suggestion is that they serve Abbot and the Thornbury woman last otherwise they will have to call Pizza Hut again for a refill.

UK police arrest teenager on terrorism offences over item found on London train

LONDON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - British police said on Friday they had arrested a teenager under terrorism laws following the discovery of a "suspicious item" on a London underground train near the Canary Wharf financial district a day earlier.

Officers discharged a stun gun during the arrest of the 19-year-old in north London who was detained on suspicion of preparing terrorism acts, London's Metropolitan Police (MPS) said in a statement.

"Officers are keeping an open mind regarding any possible motive. They are not looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation at this stage," the statement added.

The suspect item, which is still being forensically examined, was found by staff on Thursday morning on a train at North Greenwich station in east London near Canary Wharf and close to the O2 music venue.

The station was evacuated and bomb squad officers carried out a controlled explosion to make the item safe. The investigation into the incident is being led by London's Counter Terrorism Command.

Britain is on its second-highest threat level of "severe", meaning an attack is considered highly likely. London's police chief said in July that it was a case of "when, not if" there would be an attack.

High visibility patrols, including armed officers, will be deployed at transport hubs following Thursday's incident to reassure the public, the MPS said

I wonder who wrote the below and of whom does it remind me?

"Fascism was an explosion against intolerable conditions, against remediable wrongs which the old world failed to remedy. It was a movement to secure national renaissance by people who felt themselves threatened with decline into decadence and death and were determined to live, and live greatly.
"

"Together in Britain we have lit a flame that the ages shall not extinguish. Guard that sacred flame my brother Blackshirts until it illuminates Britain and lights again the Paths of Mankind."

Canada walks out of trade talks with EU
Canada's trade minister walked out of talks with Belgium's French-speaking regional government, drawing a last-minute attempt to rescue the free-trade deal between the EU and Canada to a temporary close.
Speaking after fruitless negotiations, Chrystia Freeland said: "It seems obvious for me, and Canada, that the EU is not able to have an international agreement even with a country which has such European values as Canada, and even with a country so kind, and so patient as Canada"

i guess we'll get used to the e- format
obviously it's much cheaper to produce that way than a hard copy + postage

I flick through it in about 30 secs. Won't be renewing. Good to leave a mag on the side and have a browse instead of being on the computer 24/7.

grannyboy - 21 Oct 2016 18:23 - 74213 of 81564

ie: Canada walks out of trade talks with EU..

That tells you we shouldn't be in a organisation that cannot fulfill any meaningful
agreements, that can be held up by just one part of a small country.

We have to go through this rigmarole , but it will be worth it just to get shot of
a entity that's not fit for purpose, and filled with arrogant little shits..

cynic - 21 Oct 2016 19:21 - 74214 of 81564

from the snippet i posted it was not at all clear who had scuppered the boat
do you have better detail?

It was one of the federal provinces of Belgium. A Walloon district. It stopped Belgium from ratifying the treaty due to their federal constitution. They seem pretty immovable at the moment. They have a list of dislikes about the treaty.
