Well ; it's Heathrow.....it's obvious the government want the new runway up and running quickly ; that's understandable !.....but I think Gatwick followed by the Estuary development much later would have been a better choice....building over the M25 at its widest point...(7 lanes each side including the hard shoulder plus oncoming traffic from approach roads...ouch )....how long is the tunnel going to be ?....perhaps three quarters of a mile minimum.....not going to be easy...and the cost will escalate.....that's just for starters.....anyway this should have been decided years ago...and perhaps a better alternative would have been heralded !....

I never was for the estuary idea. Apart from the jobs lost for the tens of thousands around the Heathrow area, it would have been a major inconvenience for the majority of travellers in the south east that live west of Trafalgar Square. Traffic is a nightmare as it is.
I would have approved both Gatwick and Heathrow, provided no public money was involved in the detailed planning, permitting or construction.

as a nimby i'm not exactly thrilled with the heathrow project, but i think it's the correct choice

heathrow is far easier to access than gatwick, and other locations are even worse

almost as importantly, foreigners also perceive heathrow as the number one airport for london and uk

Heathrow's third runway could be built over the M25 because it will be 'cheaper and quicker', it was revealed today.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling backed a 'sensible' plan to have a sloping runway constructed on top of the existing road instead of tearing up the motorway and putting it in a tunnel.

The estuary development is very very longterm....it's a massive airport... incorporating a new thames barrier and a new thames motorway/railway crossing...why have three separate things when you can save billions with clever planning !...in the short term : Gatwick would have been ideal for the next decade or so......anyway...it's Heathrow...and I can't see it being stopped through the courts....delayed perhaps...but halted ?...never....and the craziest thing is it seems they haven't thought out how the M25 will covered over....the runway will have an aircraft-carrier style slope on it ?....really....beggars belief...it's sort of let's do it but how not sure ?....and you can double the original cost.....it's good for people that work at Heathrow....not so good if you are under the flightpath....but there you go...it's done and dusted....
