LIBYA - updating news

cynic - 02 Mar 2011 11:48

starting this thread, which i hope will be short-lived, to keep the board up to date with latest reports gleaned from the net

Bernard M - 16 Mar 2011 13:14 - 75 of 685

Yes pay someone close to him and his family to top the lot of them.

maggiebt4 - 16 Mar 2011 14:33 - 76 of 685

Should have been enforced when rebels and arab league called for it. There are probably lots of problems operating a no fly zone that I don't appreciate but I just think as it is they've no chance C G has all their money and can pay as many mercenaries (sp?) as he likes to keep him in power and that's hardly the Libian people supporting him.
Bit confused but on my way out!

cynic - 17 Mar 2011 10:53 - 77 of 685

i confess i vacillate somewhat on this issue ..... the libyan "rebels" very understandably berate the "west" for not coming to their aid ..... however, i do not hear similar reproof of AL, which is curious ..... further if AL had backed their rhetoric with hardware and action, or at least the promise of same, it would have been much simpler (i think) for the "west" to have supported in similar vein

maggiebt4 - 17 Mar 2011 11:18 - 78 of 685

Would agree with those sentiments but presume the AL are not sure what way to jump If they support the rebels then other places could erupt in a similar fashion and perhaps they prefer to keep the lid on the hornet's nest. I did think, perhaps incorrectly, that they had already called for a NFZ

cynic - 17 Mar 2011 11:26 - 79 of 685

AL certainly approved same - but tacitly only so long as someone else did the dirty work!

TANKER - 17 Mar 2011 11:39 - 80 of 685

obama . must be the worst president the usa has ever had totaly useless he is a wet blanket. and will not put himself forward for any decisions .he as let down the states big time .

Bernard M - 17 Mar 2011 11:46 - 81 of 685

George W would have sorted it out. Obanana is a pussy.

aldwickk - 17 Mar 2011 11:51 - 82 of 685

We are still trying to sort out the mess that Bush & Blair got us into.

Bernard M - 17 Mar 2011 11:56 - 83 of 685

Gadaffe has it in the bag. He will punnish the poor protestors, and their family's.

What will the West do. Talk a lot of punishment, and silly sanctions which will further hurt the population. Bet you he gets his billions back. Russia, and China will be kissing his ass.

cynic - 17 Mar 2011 11:59 - 84 of 685

very easy to say "we" should have gone in with all guns blazing, but only a little thought and consideration reveals the very deep crevasses into which that would have led ..... on the other hand, had AL said, "And our airforces are ready to back you up", then it would have been a different story ...... so who's the pussy?

Bernard M - 17 Mar 2011 12:17 - 85 of 685

George.W was a hothead, but Obanana is a coward

Fred1new - 17 Mar 2011 12:18 - 86 of 685

Check the civilian loss of life from the No Fly Zone in Iraq.

If the "West" attempt to do so without aid from Egypt, Tunisia and AL then they would have to commit themselves to land invasion.

I am sure Aids and BM would be first to volunteer themselves and family.

TANKER - 17 Mar 2011 12:31 - 87 of 685

obama is a none person .

Fred1new - 17 Mar 2011 12:32 - 88 of 685

Other points.

Obamma is the CEO of the USA corporation and is considering which action is the best financial action for the "state".

If he is going to get involved his base is a weak economy to sustain the costs of doing so. And he has a demoralise Military forces.

Also, he has to ask the question of where next, Bahrain or Israel.

Perhaps he will ask the opinion of the AL.

I wouldn't like to take his responsibility, but at least he does consider the aftermath and consequences of military action.

Remember the actions from Vietnam on, different scale. At the moment!

Fred1new - 17 Mar 2011 12:34 - 89 of 685

Perhaps, Tanker would put his head on the block too.

Fred1new - 17 Mar 2011 13:54 - 90 of 685
