Dowgate Capital - Capitalising on the booming AIM market (DGT)

overgrowth - 09 Feb 2005 20:52

Dowgate Capital (DGT) are sitting in the middle of a goldmine!

This company through their sole trading arm City Financial Associates are looking to take full advantage of the "booming" AIM market this year. Dowgate provide NOMAD (NOMinated ADvisor) services to AIM companies and also have full Corporate Broker status which means that they can fund placements on behalf of the companies they represent.

On first sight, the fact that Dowgate exist in the often veiled financial services sector makes you think twice about investing in company such as this because it would be impossible to understand what they were doing - however, think again!

DGT bring new companies to the AIM (Alternative Investment Market). For each new company "floated" on AIM, they take arrangement fees when acting as NOMAD. After the company is launched then for a nice steady earner DGT get another healthy chunk of cash every year for looking after them (note that all AIM companies must have a nominated adviser - thereby securing a ready source of recurring income).

Because DGT also act as a Corporate broker they can get a very healthy percentage for arranging placement of shares with insititutions before a new company floats. In addition, because placements come outside the sphere of yearly NOMAD work, they can also gain healthy percentages of placements which companies may need to make throughout the year when they need a quick injection of cash to speed growth.

Current NOMADships: 28 companies represented (gives recurring income of approx 480,000 per year)

Current on-going Brokerage agreements: 19 companies (income depends on placements)

For flotations, depending on the size of a company, fees charged will be anything from 50,000 to 100,000+ For placements (the real earner), DGT get anything from 3% to around 12% of the TOTAL AMOUNT RAISED - For example a new company raising 3M though a placement will earn DGT anything from 90,000 to 360,000 ! These figures are indicative as actual deals all differ due to circumstances and DGT sometimes take payment in shares - they still have a tasty chunk of Setstone shares and when this Russian exploration company comes back to AIM, predictions are that the share price will rocket. Note that the amount that this little company can earn in fees is huge and every new deal that comes through we know will contribute another healthy chunk into the bottom line. The good news with every new floatation means that it's another chunk of recurring revenue which could go on for years, with DGT having to do very little. New clients gained in 2005 are:

Mediazest (NOMAD & broker) Elite Strategies (NOMAD) Process Handling (NOMAD) Poland Investment Fund (NOMAD) Nanotech Energy (NOMAD & broker) Archimedia Ventures (NOMAD & broker) Red Leopard Holdings (NOMAD) Alba Mineral Resources (NOMAD & broker) Intandem Films (NOMAD & broker) Motive Television (NOMAD) IncaGold (NOMAD) Sportswinbet (NOMAD & Broker) Infoscreen Networks (NOMAD & Broker) Mark Kingsley (NOMAD & Broker) Croatia Ventures (NOMAD & Broker) Pantheon Leisure (NOMAD) Firenze Ventures (Ofex Advisor) FlightStore Group (NOMAD & Broker) Euro Capital Projects (NOMAD) Pearl Street Holdings (NOMAD) Worldwide Natural Resources (Ofex Advisor) Dovedale Ventures (Ofex Advisor) Other 2005 work completed:Neptune-Calculus VCT offer for subs of up to 12 million Advisory work for TGM on London Bus disposal for 20.4M Advisory work for Creightons on property disposal Advisory work for Hampton Trust on company restructuring Advisory work for Interbulk Investments on acquisition of Inbulk Advisory work for Fundamental-e Investments on two disposals Advisory work for Designer Vision re: Design Rights against Centurion Electronics

Bound to be 'fallers' along the way, so no great surprise that Ashdene are no more. Nice to see another day of consolidation following the rise last week and also a few new shareholders (or possibly those topping up). I have asked AM to import the CFP data into the chart feeds so that we have more meaningful TA to disect and discuss.

Good move pth - I noticed intraday still wasn't working around the middle of last week. I meant to tell moneyam, though it completely slipped my mind - let me know if you want to see more in the header when everything's working.

Ashdene brings home the fact that even if at a given time, DGT can cover all their costs by recurring income, that their prime motivation has to be getting new business because, that is the thing which will keep the recurring income covering costs and provide a healthy profit also.

This sort-of ties in with an interesting comment from "Jed Clampett" made a few days ago on iii:

"I had a word with (I think his name is) David Horner (at the AGM)(non exec director). David said that he didn't want to see Nomadships covering costs completely because then CFA would be spending too much time on "old" business and not enough on new! Don't get me wrong he is not ungrateful to his exisiting clients he merely sees it as important to get new clients. I liked his thinking... that is in line with mine."

snakey: great joke (or was it a true story?! Can we have one a day please to fill the time to the interim trading statement?

EWR, How about this one.................

The spark had been lost in this guy's marriage, so he was trying to think of a way to rekindle it. One night he came from work, and found his wife asleep in bed. He thought to himself, "what should I do?" "Oh-I know." He proceeded to get under the covers and go down on his wife. Soon she began to gently squirm and moan in pleasure. After a few minutes, her body spasmed with ecstasy as she climaxed. Afterwards, the man went straight to the bathroom to brush his teeth. When he got there, the light was on and he saw his wife there shaving her legs. He exclaimed, "What are you doing in here?!?" She said, "Shhhh!," pointing at the bed, "You'll wake your mother"

How about this one !

Several men are in the changing room of a golf club. A mobile phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker-function and begins to talk.

Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello"

WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes"

WOMAN: "I am at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only 1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes garage and saw the new models. I Saw one I really liked."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "60,000"

MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing .... The house we wanted last year Is back on the market. They're asking 950,000."

MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but just offer900,000."

WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you!"

MAN: "Bye, I love you, too."

The man hangs up. The other men in the changing room are looking at him in astonishment.

Then he asks: "Anyone know whose phone this is?"

thanks stevie! :-)

Is it my imagination or does anyone else think someone is offloading into the recent strength of the SP? 100,000 here, 200,000 there, sometimes a 400,000. I don't suppose it really matters, but what a strange time to be selling up. Anyway, a nice 1M buy today, plus a few others dipping in. Continues to bode well and remain pleased that last week's rise appears to be consolidated.

Apart from those few observations, what a bloody boring day. NML thread kept me entertained for at least five minutes and a nice bun fight going on over at YOO. BBs, don't you just luv 'em!

revisit to an earlier question: does anybody know what may be happening with Setstone ???

ptholden - 15 Jun 2005 07:42 - 762 of 2787

snakey

no-one seems to know when Setstone will relist. There are a few hardy souls on ADVFN who keep an eye on things, I visit their thread now and again to see if there are any updates.

tick up this afternoon, although, curiously seemingly triggered by a 200k sell. Wonder if there might be a delayed buy in the system?

overgrowth - 15 Jun 2005 15:22 - 764 of 2787

All will be revealed at 4:30.

Nice to see DGT ticking up, rather than doing nothing.

I haven't extrapolated the chart, though if it kept going at this nice steady incline, I would guess that it will probably hit SD's target at the end of the year.

Somehow, I don't think that's going to happen. I suspect a significant bounce will be on the cards when the market sees the progress being made in black and white when the interims are out. 2005 H1 profits vs 2004 H1 losses should look pretty impressive.

moneyplus - 15 Jun 2005 15:25 - 765 of 2787

excellent-this has cheered me up along with a nice rise in MDW -after reading Dil on the YOO thread I was close to giving in and doing some household chores!!

I made that post when the tick up was just 1.25% or so. Once it shot up 9%, it became fairly obvious that a delayed buy is in the system. If not, why the rise? As you say, all will be revealed at 4.30.

As far as the SP is concerned come the Interims, I think that will all depend on the progress between now and then. If we continue with these sort of rises we may reach an offer price of about 0.85p. Throw in a further 25% increase on release and we should see something in the region of 1.05p. All complete conjecture of course and just a bit of fun, but I am surprised to see this sort of activity whilst the results are some way off. Presumbably punters are beginning to catch onto DGT significant potential for retuen on investment.

moneyplus - 15 Jun 2005 15:58 - 767 of 2787

Are you both holding for the longer term or looking to take profits at 1.05p?

overgrowth - 15 Jun 2005 16:03 - 768 of 2787

moneyplus - I'm not planning on getting out before 2p'ish, and depending on how the AIM market looks at that time (which I don't think will be too much into the future), then I may decide to hold even longer term.

DGT have the right management to make this company into another Daniel Stewart and that implies substantial long term gains to be had.

moneyplus - 15 Jun 2005 16:04 - 769 of 2787

cheers OG--I think I'll hang onto mine too!

Planning to hang on, although one can never be sure. All depends on how the second half of the year shapes up. Will keep a very close eye on new business.

Just seen DGT mentioned on the ADVFN GMC thread, beginning to spark interest far and wide!!
