How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

the 2 lbws are shocking, though couldnt really expect Ponting to be given out on 96 in his 100th test - just wouldnt have been cricket!!!

Cloudbase - 04 Jan 2006 03:23 - 7558 of 10502

Lol, the umpire must have backed the draw!!

Cloudbase - 04 Jan 2006 03:28 - 7559 of 10502

Cloudbase - 04 Jan 2006 16:16 - 7565 of 10502

Hi all
Fundy..... See you had all the fun when i'd gone to bed, sounds like the umpire's wan't glasses or maybe a white stick, at least our draw lay looking better now or did you take profit?

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2006 16:21 - 7566 of 10502

Good day on the horses today.

i spent most of the night laying it :-) have taken out some of the risk due to the weather but will lay again if weather stays ok. Keep flicking across to the forecasts, seem a bit better at the mo, though the radar shows a little rain around Sydney at the mo

Scrip

well done, only traded the last hour due to not getting up in time lol

Cloudbase - 04 Jan 2006 16:25 - 7568 of 10502

Hi Scrip......Not so good here 6 out of 10 and 2 bad ones. Trying to trade Futures
as well, not a good idea!!

Fundamentalist - 04 Jan 2006 17:02 - 7569 of 10502

Covered the rest of my draw liabilty at 1.75, will lay again once i see the weather but worried about an over reaction if some drizzle in the morning - seem to be a lot of varying f/casts about, some are clear, some are showers all day

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2006 18:16 - 7570 of 10502

10/11 and my only loss was 89p so it felt like a good day today. Tomorrow, who knows?

I actually have been trying to catch up on emails but struggling to resist the temptation to trade.

not sure if youre around but latest reports suggest it rained a fair bit overnight and is currently very overcast though no rain at present with play due to start in an hours time

If it stays like this with no rain then conditions likely to suit the bowlers and the only barrier to a result is the rain coming. Most forecasts are still saying showers are likely though from what i see not too much play should be lost.

Looking to lay the draw again but waiting till closer to the start (the danger being the price will drift out as it gets closer if its still not raining)

Cloudbase - 04 Jan 2006 22:55 - 7572 of 10502

Hi Fundy, yes still here, the radar showing showery conditions.
Nice trading earlier, left mine running though with hind site should have covered.
Price coming in a bit now. AUS need to take an early wicket to bring this game alive, lets hope we don't get to many rain interuptions.

Fundamentalist - 04 Jan 2006 22:58 - 7573 of 10502

Play delayed due to rain, managed to put a smallish back in a1.67 so in credit for the day already - just indecisive as to lay it off now or wait to see how long the weather stays bad

Fundamentalist - 04 Jan 2006 23:02 - 7574 of 10502

out at 1.51

looks like play should start in approx half an hour

bakko - 04 Jan 2006 23:04 - 7575 of 10502

Evening Fellows

Keeping a close eye on the Aus v SA but no positions on this.

Steve...Thanks for your analysis on the match. Very much appreciated as still learning with the odds movements over 5 day tests.

I see that the start is delayed despite no rain at the moment but conditions look overcast

Bak

no probs, i post on the bf forum through the night usually and easy to share my views on here - also helps clarify them sometimes by writing them down.

market seems to indicate a start imminent, its certainly not raining currently
