Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

Just noticed when you hover the mouse over the "Indices" tab the word that appears is spelt "Indicies"..............;-)

Addo - 12 Dec 2002 05:33 - 77 of 7315

When I enter the site and click on a thread, it asks me to sign in. Every time I sign in, it asks me for my password, first time I click "ok" it gives me this error message below. Back it up, click a second time and it allows me in the site. However it sends me back to the homepage rather into the thread I clicked to enter in the first place.Grumble grumble.

Pay me ?50,000 consultation fee and I'll put all this right for you :-)

Where's the bloody pound ????? (here.no) sign ? Ah a sign it's going into Euro is it ??? No

Ah ha, neither euro or pound sign works, does dollar ??$?$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Cheap crap American software only dollars show, crumby or what

MightyMicro - 12 Dec 2002 05:58 - 79 of 7315

Addo: I can assure you that this most definitely not "cheap crap American software" -- it's British through and through. Have a look at our website http://ist.co.uk and our list of customers and you'll see that we are one of the few UK success stories in software in the USA.

Your 50k consultation fee would be excessive.

In defence of the team that have put this together, you must remember that this has been done in record time. Also this is a Beta test so you've been invited to help test the site because we know that there must be problems to be found.

Cheers

Mighty Micro,

Touchy touchy, please click my name and read my profile here before you start wanting to ban me.

?50k is my normal fee for trouble shooting, if it makes you baulk, then of course you can't afford my expertise :-)

If it's British, why then do no pound signs and euro signs, but dollar signs do work ?? Is it totally original software or has it been modelled on any other site or BB system ?? I highly doubt it is totally 100% proprietary software.

As a beta tester, I'm giving up my time for nothing to help you out, so please be patient and understanding.

Regards

LOL, Mighty Micro, I can't access your site, oh dear. I'll look at it later. Shall I report any bugs for that site here as well ??

MightyMicro - 12 Dec 2002 08:34 - 82 of 7315

Ban you? Not my province. I'm just a humble techonology provider. I'll leave it to Bullshare, our chairman.

Why do you doubt that it's 100% proprietary? It was all written from scratch by IST in Reading. Nothing borrowed, nothing blue.

I agree there's a wierd problem with the pound sign but euro works for me. As you appear to be a technical whizz, perhaps you can detect a problem at the client end?

I can acccess the IST site just fine from California, perhaps the wet string to the BVI is broken. If you need Internet or networking experts, we have staffers with 25 years experience who can help you.

Cheers

Addo - 12 Dec 2002 09:44 - 83 of 7315

Mighty Micro, is it really totally 100% original or not ? It looks very much like some other sites, and/or BB facilities are you sure that nothing was borrowed or a template used??

My technical expertise confirms the pound or euro signs are not showing up, and I have the relevant fonts installed so it's not me. Technically speaking there is a spanner.

I am a computer duffer/luddite that is obvious from anyone who knows me. I probably brought more security issues to light on the ADVFN site than any other person, for the good I feel. I mentioned Apache servers on one thread and the whole world descended on me like a ton of hot brown stuff.

Bullshare may ban me now.

Regards, and keep tapping.

ps now how about my first request above on clicking the password button and it throwing up a load of nonsense as listed a number of posts above ??

ipenning - 12 Dec 2002 09:53 - 84 of 7315

Addo: Thanks for the feedback regarding the stack trace above. The problem only occurs with certain browsers, and is caused by the redirected URL from the login page containing the string "&" instead of "&". We've fixed it here; I'll send the fix over and see if they can get it in the beta site ASAP.

Dontknowitall - 12 Dec 2002 09:55 - 85 of 7315

I'm not sure whether this would be an enhancement but it's an idea (probably stupid!)...

I notice you have a button "Bulletin Boards" (plural). Is there something to be said for having a number of bulletin boards dealing in different subjects? Perhaps you've already thought about this and dismissed it.

And another screen showing all updated threads from each of the bulletin boards during the last 24 hours (or since Friday on Monday morning).

For example, one bulletin board for each of the following:

FTSE 100
FTSE 250
Small and fledgling companies
AIM stocks
Other subjects - eg political, sports, jokes, current affairs
Futures and Warrants
Indexes (eg FTSE, DJIA, S&P, etc)
American stocks
European stocks
CFDs
Bugs and enhancements

Possibly this is too many (or too few?). Maybe it would be "governed" by how many threads are created in each area and when it reached a certain level, a bulletin board would be created and the relevant threads moved across. Likewise if the response dropped, the threads would be switched to another BB.

Most of us (I think) tend to "specialise" in specific areas. Some people don't touch small companies, others leave futures well alone, etc. A number of specialised bulletin boards could prevent much wading through treacle.

Just a thought.

I just remembered what the ?5 by Xmas bet was.
You won?t last till Xmas:)

All threads seem to have reset to unread today.
Having booked marked the BB as my log in page I get the BB list when I hit the link and then get asked for my password when I try to open a thread. I suppose that?s ok but would have thought I would get asked for my password even to view the BB listing. Also the login process with a web page I am unsure off. Normally I used to having a window pop up, which I just click to enter. Here I have to type it in and it seems to have a list of names I have used on other web site login names thrown up.
Anyway I would prefer just to have a normal window based pop up that I remember to PC and click Ok to.
On general site navigation buttons they look cheap and the fonts fuzzy also they don?t seem to be cached and load every time I navigate the site.
Finally whilst I now see the name of the page on my task bar link not all the pages remind me that it is the MoneyAM web site the page belongs to.

O I can't do a thingy for don't can't won't shouldn't ect ...

Ahhh it was when I cut and pasted it from Word it lost the ' in the post 88 above

MightyMicro - 12 Dec 2002 10:18 - 91 of 7315

Addo:

I suppose it depends what you mean by original. All the code is new and written by IST, but obviously the style has similarities with other BBs. In particular, we didn't want to cause culture shock to those who were used to using another well-known financial BB. The private mail feature (to which you haven't subscribed or I could be snotty to you in private) doesn't figure in Another Well-known Financial BB, but was put at my request as I knew it would solve a particular problem. I don't think it's unique to this BB, though.

You can see a completely different varient of the BB at a new technical website at www.motifdeveloper.com which is intended for people who program high-powered graphical workstations such as Silicon Graphics and Suns. The look and feel is completely different, but the underlying engine is the same -- the Deltastream BB.

Gausie suggested vile green alcohol for you? Do you have a flavour preference?

Cheers

MM

ipenning - 12 Dec 2002 10:21 - 92 of 7315

Martini:

Logins expire after about 8 hours of inactivity, so it is normal to have to log in again in the morning. The BB threads appear unread at this point because the system doesn't know who you are until you log in, so it doesn't know which threads you've read. Once you log in, you should get the correct values for unread threads.

The reason we use a login page within the site is to improve security. When the site is fully launched the password will be securely transmitted across the network using https. It also allows us to place a link on the login page for users who have not registered, allowing them to sign up.

The navigation buttons throughout the site will change - I agree they look a bit fuzzy at the moment. The front page at www.moneyam.com/beta gives a better idea of what they will look like.

As my kids say: "Sussed!"

I suggested vile green alcohol, but you couldnt read it cos I was squelched.

The white fonts in the buttons above, did a child crayon them in ?? They're awful (fuzzy)

Do we have to keep a white background ? Why can't we have oozzy yellow (FFFFCC) very easy on the eyes. Keeps tempers from fraying and all that.
