THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Anyone stay up and watch the Super Bowl ?

First one I've stayed up for in a few years and it wasn't bad. Half time show was pretty good too.

cynic - 06 Feb 2017 13:57 - 76007 of 81564

probably better than watching the awful display from the england rugby team, but i really can't be bothered to watch even superbowl for 3 hours or so, especially with endless enforced sponsor breaks

Haystack - 06 Feb 2017 14:07 - 76008 of 81564

Superbowl was brilliant. First one ever to go to extra time. Atlanta winning 28 to 3 and end up losing 28 to 34.

Almost all of the UK is made up of migrants. We are all mongrels. My family seems to be British on all sides going back to the 1600s, but I am sure there are immigrants, refugees somewhere along the line. If we go back further, there will be French, Normans, Vikings and a variety of religions. Pretty normal for most countries.

Every NHS trust to charge health tourists 'upfront' under law change

By Laura Donnelly, Health Editor
6 February 2017 • 6:01am

Every NHS trust will have to charge foreign patients “upfront” unless they can prove they are eligible for non-urgent care, Jeremy Hunt has announced.

The Health Secretary said the law would be changed from April to ensure that overseas patients made a “fair contribution” to healthcare they received.

The move means anyone flying to the UK for non-urgent treatment such as a hip operation or cataract removal could now be turned away unless they agree to pay the NHS bill.

A handful of hospitals have introduced upfront charges for overseas patients already, with requirements to provide a passport and utility bill, to help officials establish entitlement.

But the vast majority currently attempt to chase debts after patients have left the hospital - often fruitlessly.

Last week a damning report by the Public Accounts Committee warned that the Department of Health was failing to recover hundreds of millions of pounds, amid “chaotic” cost recovery systems.

Mr Hunt said: "We have no problem with overseas visitors using our NHS - as long as they make a fair contribution, just as the British taxpayer does.

"So today we are announcing plans to change the law which means those who aren't eligible for free care will be asked to pay upfront for non-urgent treatment.

"We aim to recover up to £500 million a year by the middle of this Parliament - money that can then be reinvested in patient care."

76009. Speak for yourself Hays. I know what you mean but British is a nationality not ethnicity or race. As for mongrels, they are the result of unintential breeding. A Scot marrying an Irish girl does not result in mongrel children. Genetics have shown that marrying outside the tribe normally produces stronger off-spring.

iturama - a matter of opinion :-)

76010 - and about time too; should have happened years ago, just as it does if you go into any private clinic for treatment

re- Genetics

Just yesterday I was talking on much the same terms as you said, the case was about "gypsies" were once too often they marrying inside the tribe and then one can see the consequences.

My end on the speech is this case was, the animals in the jungle in a way they are much clever in this matter than us, where you can see the mother of the male springs will be pushing them away from the clan so no inbreeding takes place.

You still get inbreeding within the muslim religion, where first cousins
marry each other, that's why you have an over representation of genetic
disorders in their communities.

cynic - 06 Feb 2017 17:07 - 76015 of 81564

it certainly happens quite a lot though it is not specifically encouraged by Qran

it is or was common among the jews too, and if i researched a little, i'm sure that an element of this was encouraged in the old testament, though there was good reason - eg marrying your brother's widow gave her protection within a small tribal community

mentor - 06 Feb 2017 17:28 - 76016 of 81564

There is no inbreeding on marrying your brother's widow

They are related after the first marriage, but there is no genetics inbreeding for the new couple

cynic - 06 Feb 2017 17:36 - 76017 of 81564

you're right .... silly me

however, from the little i have quickly dug up, marriage even to first cousins is or was deemed acceptable

Haystack - 06 Feb 2017 18:16 - 76018 of 81564

No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The U.S. is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions. It is estimated that 20 percent of all couples worldwide are first cousins.

Haystack - 06 Feb 2017 18:18 - 76019 of 81564

Cousin marriage is common in the Middle East, for instance, where it accounts for over half of all marriages in some countries. In some countries outside that region, it is uncommon but still legal. In others, it is seen as incestuous and is legally prohibited: it is banned in China and Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, and in less than half of the United States.[
