THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Labour's Corbyn Denies Resignations "Disaster" Ahead Of Reshuffle
Thu, 9th Feb 2017 11:10

LONDON (Alliance News) - Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is expected to make an announcement on Thursday on a reshuffle of Labour's shadow cabinet, after insisting that a string of resignations over Brexit were "not a disaster".

However, speculation was mounting that a number of more junior frontbenchers who rebelled over Article 50 may escape discipline, as the Labour leader indicated he was not planning a "wide" shake-up of his team.

Clive Lewis quit as shadow business secretary so he could oppose the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill in defiance of Corbyn's three-line whip on Wednesday, bringing the total number of shadow cabinet resignations to four.

He was one of 52 Labour MPs - including 11 junior shadow ministers and three whips - to vote against the Bill, which gives Theresa May the authority to start EU withdrawal negotiations under Article 50 of the EU treaties. A further 13 did not vote.

Conservatives seized on Labour's turmoil to claim the Opposition was "hopelessly divided" over Brexit. But when asked about the rebellion in his party's ranks, Mr Corbyn told BBC Breakfast: "No, it's not a disaster."

The Labour leader also said rumours that he was preparing to quit the party's top job were "absolute nonsense"....

rochdale paedophile ring face deportation
are we seeing a much-needed toughening on the rules regarding citizenship withdrawal?

the following needs (re)checking, but if i heard correctly on the wireless a couple of hours ago, the 6 ringleaders, all british nationals but of pakistan origin, are to be stripped of their citizenship and deported

the appeal court rejected their claim to be able to stay in uk

iturama - 09 Feb 2017 14:09 - 76075 of 81564

The wireless? Have you changed the valves in it recently C? That case has been going for a while with the judge telling their lawyers off for deliberately delaying the case. The judge was deciding an appeal against the Home Office taking back the passports they were awarded by naturalisation. They lost. But they can appeal again, so on it goes. Why they are not simply deported back to Pakistan while their appeals are considered is too much for our soft legal system. Let them appeal on their time and coin.

Rochdale
Rochdale sex grooming gang citizenship appeal fails

Despite the ruling, the legal battle to deport the men could drag on for some time as there are further steps the Home Office must complete

above is within the last couple of hours

These cost's to the British Taxpayer are staggering , in a murder case two women found guilty of murder had cost £ 400,000 thousand pounds . They were guilty the minute they were arrested terrible case really .

cynic - 09 Feb 2017 14:58 - 76079 of 81564

that is penalty for having an open judiciary - ie innocent until proved guilty

move away from that, and you quickly descend to kangaroo or show trials with pre-set verdicts

grannyboy - 09 Feb 2017 15:50 - 76080 of 81564

Even if they lose their appeal, they just go scurrying to the european court
of human rights claiming their deportation deprives them of a family life..

Don't expect these individuals to be deported in a month of Sundays...

cynic - 09 Feb 2017 15:54 - 76081 of 81564

yes you are off filter again, at least for now :-)

you may be right, but at least it shows a willingness by the british judiciary to take a much tougher line than in the past

Fred1new - 09 Feb 2017 16:03 - 76082 of 81564

Does "off filter" mean you can dodge answering any challenge when you want to?

9-)

Just wondering?

cynic - 09 Feb 2017 16:26 - 76083 of 81564

??? ..... on filter meant i could avoid his nonsense

for "cynic" on and off, is his passing time, just like the wireless, I should know by now

Dil - 10 Feb 2017 13:00 - 76085 of 81564

I must be racist as I laughed when I saw it on TV :-)

The Guardian

It was intended as a lighthearted joke, but a promotional video for the Six Nations coverage has left the BBC red-faced and accused of racism.

The 30-second advert for this weekend's Wales v England rugby game asked "What's Good About England" and showed Welsh fans struggling to come up with an answer.

But BBC Wales' attempt at 'banter' backfired spectacularly when furious viewers described it as "racist" and "pathetic" in a series of complaints.

The trailer was made to promote the broadcaster's coverage of the Six Nations game in Cardiff on Saturday when Wales play the current Grand Slam holders.

Dil - 10 Feb 2017 13:01 - 76086 of 81564

It can still be seen on Daily Mail and Mirror websites.

re - child refugees

What is the way to stop all those "Bl..dy Mary "women ( others call them "beaches" most likely Labour supporters ) trying again and again speaking up from those refugees, that on my opinion are not.
Most of those 90% are women, they have a more caring attitude than men ( good ), but they sure are overdoing the job in this case.

1- UK just voted against more immigrants coming to the UK
2- Those youngsters, most are not, are the same age that now are planting bombs in Europe, another one today
3- I have seeing some of those refugees saying that in the UK can finished their studies ........ what?
4 -- One way is stopping giving money to community sponsors of refugees.

High Court challenge to UK's child refugee efforts

Campaigners will challenge the government's handling of the arrival of unaccompanied child refugees from Europe, at a High Court hearing later.
They say ministers have not worked with local councils to find enough places for vulnerable children.

Separately, the daughter of the man called "Britain's Schindler" has criticised the ending of the "Dubs amendment" child refugee scheme.
Ministers argue the arrangement is "a pull" for children and traffickers.
