How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Cloudbase - 05 Jan 2006 23:30 - 7618 of 10502

Hi all.
Fundy, i'm in Shropshire and would like to meet up with you guy's for a beer and meal sometime. Next Thursday out for me, got the wife's works diner to go to and on top of that it'll take me a week to get over cricket sleep depravation LoL. so next time.

Fundamentalist - 05 Jan 2006 23:31 - 7619 of 10502

Weather forecast is good until tea then a possibility of showers.

Dil, if you want to back the draw, i would wait till 240 ahead (thats the earliest likely declaration) and until then the draw isnt likely to shorten much, the danger is, if Smith does make a risky declaration the draw price will rocket out

Cloudbase

no probs, we try to get together every month or two, though we dont always organise much in advance as you can see!

Dil - 05 Jan 2006 23:35 - 7621 of 10502

The way Kallis is batting it'll be tea time before they get that far in front :-)

Dil - 05 Jan 2006 23:36 - 7622 of 10502

Makes Boycott look fast !

Fundamentalist - 05 Jan 2006 23:42 - 7624 of 10502

Dil

he is the most selfish international "team" sportsmen that i can ever recall (and ive seen a lot of sport over the years!!!)

Cloudbase - 05 Jan 2006 23:46 - 7625 of 10502

Now its getting interesting

Fundamentalist - 05 Jan 2006 23:55 - 7626 of 10502

Im just about back at break even (if i wanted to) but currently still big red the draw, huge green the 2 results - im in your hands Mr Smith

Cloudbase - 06 Jan 2006 00:00 - 7627 of 10502

Nice trading.
see on the forum there's a few with large draw lay liabilities
Just trying to get to grips with PRO and all its bells and whistles so will probably firing some questions

Fundamentalist - 06 Jan 2006 00:04 - 7628 of 10502

No probs cloudbase

all the usual suspects on the forum with the big red draw - some of them (like me) are habitual draw layers

Cloudbase - 06 Jan 2006 00:10 - 7629 of 10502

What % of test matches end in a draw?

bakko - 06 Jan 2006 00:11 - 7630 of 10502

Morning All,

Just turned the cricket on and looks quite interesting!

Fundamentalist - 06 Jan 2006 00:17 - 7631 of 10502

Cloudbase

not a good statistic to use because the number is decreasing as every year goes by, so depends if you look at 3,5,10,20 yr stats

ive got em somewhere, will post them up when the game goes quiet

Fundamentalist - 06 Jan 2006 00:28 - 7632 of 10502

declared

287 off 75 overs needed

Fundamentalist - 06 Jan 2006 00:28 - 7633 of 10502

76 overs sorry

Cloudbase - 06 Jan 2006 00:29 - 7634 of 10502

Thanks, why are the no. decreasing? a change in the style of the game?

Cloudbase - 06 Jan 2006 00:31 - 7635 of 10502

Well you can't say SA are'nt trying to win this.
Not a stupid run rate either...game on.

schiff - 06 Jan 2006 00:37 - 7636 of 10502

Fundy - I now see where I got it wrong. In 7633 you say 'some of them (like me) are habitual draw layers' but you obviously don't do it at the KO of football matches (7593).

On Ceefax (341/1) Shaun Pollock is on record as saying that SA will risk losing the 3rd Test in a bid to tie the series against Australia. Maybe that might be of help to you all. Cloudbase seems to have twigged it!
