Kivver Yes, I do think everyone should have a stop figure set, if it gets hit, get out, if you want to you can always get back in later, at least you wont loose it all.

I never hold any shares too long; (apart from a few long term ones) normally its a matter of hrs only, but an exit point is set each time, you have to be ready to get out, and quick, then admit your timing was wrong, (again).

I made the same mistake as yourself many times, but Im trading full time now, so it's become more crucial than ever, and I treat it just like a business, I even pay myself a wage.

Seven months later, I'm wishing I had started years ago. :-))

Kivver - 28 Jul 2004 08:48 - 774 of 2262

Well done prodman, part time investor with a full time job so cannot watch at all times. The broker i use does not have a stop loss facility. im also starting with small investment hoping to watch it grow. Tend to put bigger amoounts into ftse 100 & 250 and small amounts into smaller speculative shares. A policy which is giving me a fair amount of success. If you add dividends i have some great results with tesco, baa, atkins, capita, mccarthy and stone, and nat grid (no failures). Smaller successes, mph, asc, and my first investment science systems now codasscisys, where i quadrupled my money (failures cybit, tadpole, transence, centurion electronics, alizyme, but still holing all because i think they will all go higher, blind faith perhaps)

Happy1 - 28 Jul 2004 09:09 - 775 of 2262

A bit more of a rise and then the shorters are going to close.

yuff - 28 Jul 2004 09:42 - 776 of 2262

happy
Not so sure if I was a shorter why I would close currently( i am not btw) the company announced the deal 3 weeks ago and we still do not know any more and the share price has dropped 30%.
This circular should have been out within a week, 2 max, what are they playing at, if tyhey want a hard time at the EGM they are going the right way about it!

pachandl - 28 Jul 2004 09:48 - 777 of 2262

Anyone seen/heard of the briefing note that Tad was supposedly sending round to fund managers/analysts yesterday?

snappy - 28 Jul 2004 11:25 - 778 of 2262

Yuff,

Is a little bit of chair shuffling at this EGM possible from you know who?

[edit] perhaps a more horizontal development is underway on the chart now, but a rise to 15.75p as predicted by some in the short term is highly unlikely imho

Organization of GIS-Centric Software Providers Forms
July 30, 2004
Company: National Association of GIS-Centric Software
Industry: Software Development, GIS Software Products, Interoperability and Data Integration, Open Source GIS
Location: Sandy, UTAH, United States of America

The National Association of GIS-Centric Software (NAGCS) announced their formation today. NAGCS is an association of software ESRI Authorized Developers dedicated to providing enterprise GIS solutions while promoting the unique characteristics and benefits of GIS-centric software and applications. The association also promotes interoperability, open standards and shared access among related applications, distinguishing these applications and software systems from other approaches.

NAGCS certification is available to any software system that meets the criteria described by the association. Systems that meet these criteria are then authorized to carry the NAGCS Certification mark. The criteria include:

The GIS GeoDatabase is the feature database.
Non-redundant feature data storage.
Feature data model is fully user-definable and customizable without vendor support.
Non-proprietary feature data model format, including data names, fields, tables, relationships, and other data design elements.
Interoperable, providing maximum compatibility with any other GIS-centric application, including concurrent use of the feature geodatabase.
Feature data coordinate location and connectivity is inherent in the feature data model, enabling full utilization of the spatial analysis capabilities of the GIS, including linear referencing, events and other GIS functionality.
Feature data is created and maintained using the GIS tools for editing, including data error identification and correction methods.

The founding members of NAGCS recognize the unparalleled benefits of GIS-centric systems. All these firms are founded on that principal and are among the fastest growing companies in their sector, says Brian Haslam, President of Azteca Systems. In seeking a clear way to distinguish the unique benefits of GIS-centric applications, NAGCS establishes a defining set of criteria that affords us the opportunity to ensure systems meet the standard of what customers expect: no gimmicks and no tricks, but true GIS-centric solutions. Many companies out there claim they use the GIS. We want to set a clear definition of what it means to be GIS-centric.
The associations founding members include: Azteca Systems, Tadpole Cartesia, NovaLIS, Miner & Miner and RouteSmart Technologies. The companies outlined the criteria and will remain as voting members. More software companies are expected to join while an interim management team is in place to govern the association until it can be self-operational. The association will soon be announcing the appointment of a third party agent that will review and evaluate applicants for certification.

About NAGCS
The National Association of GIS-Centric Software was established to distinguish the unique characters and capabilities of using GIS-centric solutions and data in applications built for business processes. The group is dedicated to furthering the development of GIS-centric solutions for all industries, encouraging the use of GIS-based enterprise systems and distinguishing the benefits of GIS-centric capabilities. ML
I see the muppets on the other side can't work out the significance.
LOL

Kivver - 01 Aug 2004 12:23 - 781 of 2262

whhhooooooooossshhhhhh!

snappy - 01 Aug 2004 15:04 - 782 of 2262

Yuff, perhaps you could spell out the significance to Tadpole?

It looks very much like an irrelevant cut and paste to me.

johnnyuk - 02 Aug 2004 09:22 - 783 of 2262

I'd be interested to know the significance - genuine request Yuff!

Dick Dasterdly, are you still about, still holding? Not such a great result for Palace yesterday, mind you I never liked West London!

yuff - 02 Aug 2004 09:57 - 784 of 2262

Johnny
As ESRI are re-sellers of Cartesia's software it opens the door to many more customers.

johnnyuk - 03 Aug 2004 09:33 - 785 of 2262

Thanks Yuff I see the connection now.
This Board seems to have gone as dead as the share price!
I can understand the uncertainty until the EGM and details of the takeover are finalised, but I think that the drop in price is overdone and probably due to the weakness of the overall markets too.
Now shall I buy some more!

Moneylender - 03 Aug 2004 12:39 - 786 of 2262

I see Tad have Eight vacancies to fill, 4 Cartesia and 4 ETI.
Looks like business is booming.

ML - either that or existing staff are leaving in droves and cannot be replaced quickly enough. Hope you are still getting up bright and early for the rest of us. Cheers.

yuff - 03 Aug 2004 21:09 - 790 of 2262

pach
With all the recent contracts it is more likely to be ML's scenario.

drunker50 - 03 Aug 2004 22:59 - 791 of 2262

do any1 have any idea when the whole software sector is gonna come out of this depression, apart from some small gains which have since disapeared id say the software sector is still in the the downtrend started at the turn of the millenium, i strongly believe when we come out of this you will see some big gains but do any1 know WHEN

pachandl - 04 Aug 2004 11:45 - 792 of 2262

I am still hoping that someone can find out what Tad sent out last week to institutions re an explanation for its recent "merger" deal.
