"Leadcom Integrated Solutions "buy"

Wednesday, August 15, 2007 1:22:18 PM ET

Panmure Gordon & Co

LONDON, August 15 (newratings.com) - Analyst Nick James of Panmure Gordon & Co maintains his "buy" rating on Leadcom Integrated Solutions (ticker: LMM). The target price is set to 110p.

In a research note published this morning, the analyst mentions that the company has won a new APAC contract with a tier-1 cellular operator in India. An initial purchase order valued at $9 million is likely to get recognized as revenues in FY07, the analyst says. The scale of revenue opportunity from the contract appears large as well as significant, Panmure Gordon & Co adds. "

Vodafone to award $1.8 bn deal to 3 firms

18 Aug, 2007, 0314 hrs IST,Kalyan Parbat & Joji Thomas Philip, TNN

KOLKATA/NEW DELHI: After assuming the reins at the erstwhile Hutch-Essar, UKs Vodafone Group - the worlds largest mobile services company - is set to award one of Indias largest network expansion contracts estimated to be worth about $1.8 billion jointly to three equipment vendors - Nokia-Siemens Networks, Ericsson and Motorola.

Vodafone Essar currently offers mobile services in 16 of the 23 telecom circles in the country. Sources close to the development told ET that the contract would be discussed at Vodafone Essars next board meeting in September, the date for which is yet to be finalised.

According to sources, Nokia Siemens Networks is likely to be the principal supplier of network electronics like base tower stations (BTS), base station controllers (BSC) and transcoders in 12 out of Vodafone Essars 16 existing circles. Motorola, in turn is slated to supply BTSs, BSCs and transcoders in the companys Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Punjab circles. As for mobile switching centres (MSC), Nokia Siemens will supply to almost all existing Vodafone Essar circles, with the exception of Mumbai metro circle where the MSCs will be supplied by Swedens Ericsson.

Vodafone offers second-generation cellular services in all the 16 circles. It operates in the 900 MHz band in 12 circles and 1,800 MHz band in the remaining ones.

When contacted, all three vendors neither confirmed nor denied the development. An Ericsson spokesperson said, We really cannot comment. Nokia Siemens Networks, in a reply to ETs queries, said: We cannot comment at this stage. Similarly, Motorola in a written reply, said: As per policy, we do not comment on speculation.

While it could not be independently confirmed, ET has also learnt that Vodafone Essar has also identified locations for setting up mobile towers in some of the new circles (Orissa, Bihar, Assam and North-East) where unified access service licences are held through its wholly-owned subsidiary Vodafone Essar Spacetel. But since these would be greenfield cellular rollouts, all decisions on equipment suppliers would be taken only after Vodafone Essar Spacetel receives spectrum from the department of telecom (DoT).

Eight months have elapsed since DoT issued licences for the Spacetel circles, but it is yet to consider Vodafone Essars application for 4.4 MHz spectrum in each of the circles.

This network deal apart, both Nokia Siemens and Ericsson have bagged a series of major equipment contracts in India over the last couple of months. For instance, Nokia Siemens had recently bagged a $900-million network outsourcing contract from Bharti Airtel.

Just prior to that, the company was awarded the contract to upgrade the broadband network of state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL). It has also received a Rs 300-crore network expansion contract from Aircel Cellular to build and operate a greenfield GSM network in Kolkata in addition to bagging a $500-million two-year network expansion contract with Idea Cellular.

Similarly, Ericsson, which recently bagged a $2-billion network outsourcing contract from Bharti Airtel, is also close to inking a $1-billion plus deal with BSNL for both 2G and 3G lines. The Bharti deal was its fourth major outsourcing deal with Ericsson in as many years.

Ericsson bags $1.3 bn BSNL contract for GSM lines

8 Sep, 2007, 0351 hrs IST, TNN

NEW DELHI: Public sector BSNL has announced that it would invest Rs 22,881 crore this fiscal on expanding operations and added that it had awarded a Rs 5,200-crore contract ($1.3 billion) to Swedish equipment major Ericsson for 13.12 million GSM lines.

BSNLs new CMD Kuldeep Goyal told mediapersons that orders for the first phase of the tender involving 22.75 million lines has been finalised and Ericsson had accepted the letter of intent (LoI) for 13.12 million lines.

The work is to be completed in 12 months and the LoI for remaining 9.62 million lines is being issued to Nokia (Siemens) shortly. Ericsson will supply 13.12 million lines at Rs 3,700 ($90.94) per line, Mr Goyal said. As per the tender agreement, Nokia Siemens will have to match the price agreed to by Ericsson.

Meanwhile, Ericsson in a statement said that it had won the contract valued at $1.3 billion to supply GSM and WCDMA/HSPA equipment and related telecom services to BSNL. Under the agreement, Ericsson will be responsible for the expansion and upgrade of BSNLs existing GSM network and introduction of WCDMA/HSPA functionality, the Swedish major added.

BSNLs Rs 22,880-crore capex for this fiscal is part of the Rs 60,000 crore that the company plans to invest over the next three years to expand operations and double its turnover. Giving a breakup of this capex for this fiscal, Mr Goyal said that about Rs 7,417 crore will be towards mobile services, Rs 6,200 crore will be for fixed lines, WLL and broadband and internet will get about Rs 6,200 crore while value-added services would get Rs 9,230 crore.

Last year, the companys revenues had crossed Rs 40,000 crore and Mr Goyal said that the PSU would generate a profit of Rs 8,000 after taxes. Mr Goyal also said that BSNL would soon introduce internet telephony services which would allow broadband users to call abroad for Re 1 per minute.

We have already asked for the expression of interest (EoI) for Voice over Internet Protocol. We will shortlist and tie up with players who can offer us technical support to offer these services within the next two months, and hope to launch internet telephony within the next four months, he said.

He also said that the PSU would soon float a tender for WiMax while adding that the company was all geared up to offer IPTV services in major cities such as Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore. With regard to broadband, Mr Goyal said the company would add around two million broadband connections this fiscal.

India buzzing with 200 mn mobile users

22 Sep, 2007, 0005 hrs IST, TNN

NEW DELHI: The countrys wireless market, the fastest growing in the world, crossed another milestone, with the subscriber base crossing the 200-million mark in August. The country added 8.31 million wireless subscribers, including GSM, CDMA and wireless in local loop (fixed) or WLL (F), in August to touch 201.29 million users, according to figures released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Friday.

India has thus met its 200-million mobile subscriber target four months ahead of schedule the government had set the target for 2007-end and just over a year after crossing the 100-million mark in May 2006. The target of 250 million phones in total (mobile plus fixed) is also close in sight. At the end of August, India had 241.02 million telephone subscribers, against 232.87 million at the end of July. The countrys teledensity improved slightly to 21.20% by August-end, against 20.52% by July-end, Trai data shows.

The wireline or fixedline segment stood at 39.73 million subscribers at the end of August, registering a decline of 0.16 million users during the month. Total broadband connections in the country increased by 0.09 million in August to reach 2.56 million.

According to figures released earlier by the Cellular Operators Association of India, the GSM operators representative body, the countrys GSM subscriber base reached 147.7 million at the end of August. The figure, however, doesnt include Reliance Telecom subscriber numbers as the telco is yet to release its subscriber figures.

This means that the total CDMA and WLL (F) subscribers in the country stood at about 53.59 million at the end of August. Among the wireless operators, Bharti Airtel added 2.05 million users in August, taking its subscriber base to 46.8 million. Vodafone Essar, which added 1.67 million subscribers in August, had 34.11 million users.

Lots of activity in India but no contract announcements from Leadcom! Anyone have a timescale as to when we might hear something or are the suppliers all using their in-house installation teams?

PapalPower - 04 Oct 2007 07:14 - 792 of 955

Smaller contracts will only be announced if they have major strategic implications. The pointer will be Q3 results due in November.

The delays on the BSNL tender are now really hurting BSNL and their ability to add new subscribers.......

http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2007/10/12/stories/2007101252931200.htm

GSM mobile cos add 56 lakh subscribers in Sept

Our Bureau New Delhi, Oct. 11

GSM cellular operators added 56 lakh new subscribers in September, taking the total to 15.33 crore mobile users across the country. While Bharti Airtel added over 20 lakh new mobile users, Vodafone Essar increased its tally by 15 lakh. State-owned BSNL could get only 5.9 lakh new subscribers as it is still struggling with capacity issues.

Vodafone has now emerged as the clear number two player in the GSM cellular market with 3.55 crore subscribers, ahead of BSNL, which has just over 3 crore . Bharti Airtel continues at the top without much challenge with nearly 4.9 crore mobile subscribers. Other operators such as Idea Cellular are far behind with less than 1.9 crore subscribers.

In terms of geography, Andhra Pradesh is now the single largest GSM market with 1.13 crore subscribers, overtaking the previous hot spot Delhi. The second biggest market is Maharashtra, which has 1.12 crore subscribers. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka are the other States in the top five markets in terms of subscriber base. The growth rate in the four metros has tapered. In fact Punjab and Haryana have more mobile users than Chennai and Kolkata.

Though the growth in September is slightly lower than August when 59 lakh new mobile users were added, market watchers expect the growth rate to be maintained, with operators targeting to reach 50 crore subscribers by 2010. However, crucial policy decisions on spectrum allocation and guidelines for new applicants for telecom licences is expected to be announced this month and this could have a bearing on the growth rate going forward.

Good post from AFN coming from the Ericsson update, which although not good news for Ericsson holders due to the loss of higher margin items, and therefore profits warning, is good news for Leadcom holders, as is said, new network rollouts are "dominating" things and will continue to do so. Although this kind of work is lower margin for the likes of Ericsson this is the bread and butter for Leadcom, and so, the future looks very bright for LEAD.

JM Barrie100 - 16 Oct'07 - 11:37 - 6395 of 6396

Just listened to Ericsson's press conference - all 45 minutes of it.

The bottom line seems to be that Ericsson seems to have completely screwed up estimates on the split between network rollouts, expansion, software upgrade. The latter two result in higher margin (software upgrade can result in margins of 90%). Expected to be a third/a third/a third, in fact expansion and upgrade sales fell, but network rollouts increased - 'dominated' is the word used by Ericsson.

As for the future, I quote 'new rollouts will dominate for several quarters'.

So in theory very good news for LEADcom, turnover should be in line with forecast or even higher, the main concern is whether competition has reduced margins for LEAD.
