THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

This was posted across the road by MT, it's obviously from a blog, but he doesent attribute the writer.

According to the Kensington & Chelsea Council, over 3,500 people have come forward to claim they were living in Grenfall Tower and, are demanding compensation, new housing and a veritable smorgasbord of handouts.

One disgruntled local said, 'Who are the real tenants of Grenfell Tower? It appears many of those council flats were illegally sublet. And the people whose names are on the tenancies are now getting 'rehoused' in luxury £1.5m flats, while many of the actual inhabitants of the flats on that terrible night are in local B&B's or in some cases sleeping rough or in cars and vans."

He went on to say, " you can bet your life many of the new 'tenants' of the luxury flats will then rent them out on the private market for a fortune'.

Welcome to benefits Britain and our clueless public sector administrators!

Food for thought eh?

"however, i think the official enquiry has to be conducted first before even the inquest(s) let alone any court action"

No Alf that's just what we don't want.

Official enquiries = years of time delays to protect their mates.

1) An inquest "immediately" involves the local people who matter most.

2) Then prosecutions.

Mark,

Let them doss out on the pavements, none of them need any help.

It is their own fault for being in the flats.

Fred1new - 22 Jun 2017 21:14 - 78100 of 81564

Interesting up until the 70s the UK had a Civil Defence organisation.

Primary object was to "clear up" after "nuclear attack" or similar "catastrophes".

Perhaps, it would be sensible to reform similar on a smaller scale for but with the ability to cover the who whole of the Uk with the organising ability to deal with "problems" such as caused by the flat fires.

The other thing which surprises me is that there appeared to be only one exit and no other escape routes.

Another is that stairwell did not seem to have "draught doors" sectioning areas off.

But accept that the cladding seemed the likely method of fire spread.

Another, is why wasn't there an effective fire warning alarm?

The problem of identifying victims, she added, was being complicated by the fact that “a lot of people were irregular in their tenancies and some were subletting. Some of them were illegal subtenancies.” Those who perished may not be those recorded as the official tenants of a flat.

this the problem facing the council who was in the flats ,

iturama - 23 Jun 2017 10:10 - 78112 of 81564

You're jumping ahead of yourself Stan when you talk about prosecutions, at least as far as the councils are concerned. It is now found that the cladding has been in widespread use, including on recently built hotels. The problem appears to be with the testing and approval of the cladding, not the councils that were paying to have it installed in the belief that it would improve the appearance and insulation of the flats.
The tenancies are another matter. If the councils now visit all the other flats in their areas to register who exactly is living in them, they will no doubt be called fascists for harrassing the poor and another day of rage will be called.
Personally, I am enraged by the unrestricted immigration from outside the EU that the labour government inflicted upon us. Including the gross stupidity of stopping border checks on people leaving the country when it was clear that passports were being taken out of the country for others to use on re-entry.

Deadly London tower blaze began in Hotpoint fridge freezer - police - Fri, 23rd Jun 2017 11:21

LONDON, June 23 (Reuters) - A fire that engulfed a London tower block killing at least 79 people started in a Hotpoint fridge freezer and cladding on the building failed all safety tests, London police said on Friday.

Police Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said the Hotpoint model, FF175BP, was not subject to recall and that the manufacturer was doing further tests.

"We now have expert evidence that the fire was not started deliberately," McCormack said.

Police said both the insulation and tiles used in cladding at the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block failed all post-fire safety tests.

"Preliminary tests show the insulation samples collected from Grenfell tower combusted soon after the test started," McCormack said.

Such were their concerns after the tests that the information was immediately shared with government to disseminate more widely.

"Given the deaths of so many people we are considering manslaughter as well as criminal offences and breaches of legislation and regulations," McCormack said.

The blaze, Britain's worst since World War Two, has heaped pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May, already fighting for her political survival after her party lost its parliamentary majority in a snap election on June 8.

When speaking about the 79 people dead, presumed dead or missing, McCormack said: "I fear that there are more."

T Maybe has been in "power" or "strong and stable" government for 6 years promising that she would solve the problem of "immigration".

Looking at the charts she doesn't seem to be that "successful" other than using the figures of political advantage and scapegoating the failures of her governing body.

Phillip Hammond doesn't seem that enthusiastic about lowering the level.

Uk Debt doesn't seem that clever either.

Also, there seems to be a flight of financial services.

The present group of tory elite has been in power for 6 years and doesn't seem that successful.

Perhaps, it should accept responsibility for its own failures rather than blaming its predecessors.
