After all the ramping about tomorrow elsewhere - if its bad news - nothing special news - or no news - this is going to drop away very quickly as everyone gets out fast.

markusantonius - 26 Jul 2005 01:31 - 7814 of 27111

II, why do you think it will "drop away very quickly......"?

Stanelco PLC
26 July 2005

26th July 2005

Stanelco plc ('Stanelco' or 'the Company')

Biotec Joint Venture wins 20m annual order from SP Metal S.A. ('SP Metal')

Stanelco, the RF (radio frequency) applications group is pleased to announce
that it has received a conditional commitment from SP Metal its Joint Venture ('
JV') partner in Biotec for an annual purchase of approximately 10,000 metric
tonnes of Biotec's biodegradable pellet worth in excess of 20m per year.

As a result, Stanelco and SP Metal have agreed to increase Biotec's production
capacity of biodegradable pellets to 12,000 metric tonnes by an investment
programme in new processing equipment valued at 4.5m. Full production is
anticipated within six months.

The purchase of Biotec Holdings and the JV with SP Metal is subject to
shareholder approval.

Ian Balchin, CEO of Stanelco plc commented:

'We are delighted to receive this commitment from SP Metal which demonstrates
that the market for starch based polymers is set for significant growth. We look
forward to the prospect of completing the acquisition and JV agreement in the
next few weeks.'

A fuller announcement will follow when specific details of the order are
finalised.

Amazing Baza, really you should set up your own tip sheet.

No idea how to interpret the effect of the announcement Bos, other than thank god its posiitve, the market should like it, another stepping stone with moderate effect i would guess.

bhunt1910 - 26 Jul 2005 07:53 - 7819 of 27111

Well I think it is good news - anything that brings in revenue - I guess someone will be able to do the calculation as to how manygreenseal machines this is the equivalent of.

However - I guess because it is NOT the big order that everyone is anticipating - it will probably have little effect on the market. Only my guess - .

I suspect once an order is placed , then the snowball effect will start to happen as people start to realise exactly what has been acheived - but I think we are going to have to wait awhile until that order is published. I for one do not necessarily expect it to be WalMart - but another US retailer.

Hi All,

I don't know what the gross margin is on TPS, but I do know that Biotec uses 140,000 tons of plastic a year, so they could increase their usage by over 11x todays figure, over the next few years, so work that one out :)

Also TPS becomes more profitable, the bigger the quantity you manufacture.

I say it shows that Stanelco were right to go JV on Biotec with S.P Metal, as the reduced cost to S.P Metal shows that Biotec CAN undercut the cost of petro-plastics, when also distributed by Stanelco to food packaging companies, so expect deals on that front with ASDA, after trials are completed.

I agree it is not the deal everyone is looking for at this particular time, but it's still a good one, maybe worth 1p to 1.5p on the price from an investing point of view.

Cheers,

PM

mmmmmmm, 12,000 metric tonnes, how many yards is that?

bhunt1910 - 26 Jul 2005 08:27 - 7823 of 27111

About the equivalent (guess) of ordering 300 greenseal machines !!!

bosley - 26 Jul 2005 09:01 - 7824 of 27111

so even though biotec is jointly owned, sp metal have to pay to get the pellets because this part of the company is owned by seo?

driver - 26 Jul 2005 09:11 - 7825 of 27111

I wonder if they have to pay for the bog roll if they wander into the SEO half.

bosley - 26 Jul 2005 09:14 - 7826 of 27111

driver , thats a daft question. of course they do!!

hewittalan6 - 26 Jul 2005 09:36 - 7827 of 27111

Bet it's a fun place to be when its time to buy the coffee and biscuits for the staff tea room!!!

insiderinside - 26 Jul 2005 09:41 - 7828 of 27111

1/ Biotec is a JV - Biotec turnover does not count towards SEO turnover - only the Profit or Loss it generates goes on to the SE0 books.

2/ 20M Euro was the value of turnover - (not the profit) Biotec is still loss making and SP Metal was buying this before from Biotec.

3/ Profit lets say 10% as its a JV partner ordering from the JV - so profit is 2M Euro per year - adding in to the debt owed by Biotec and its losses - it may now even make Biotec break even in a year (shame Biotec is still in debt though).

4/ Any profit from Biotec is split 50/50 with SP Metal.

5/ SE0 have to half pay for the works needed !

Do you see the reason now that SE0 HAD TO sell half of Biotec to SP Metal - they were had by the balls

Carry on in the downtrend and probably more quickly later this week - all IMO.

This was smoke and mirrors - a nothing announcement designed to confuse - and still no more Greenseal orders or news - its looking dire is it not ?

bhunt1910 - 26 Jul 2005 09:45 - 7829 of 27111

Is it not - I think is the answer!

EWRobson - 26 Jul 2005 09:47 - 7830 of 27111

Very interesting development. The underlying message is that SEO are really gearing up with their partners to fully exploit Greenseal and biodegradables. I'm not sure whether the question re the implications for volume of Greenseal machines has been answered. In other words, what volume of biodegradable trays would be consumed by a typical machine with an ASDA supplier? Don't know whether that is in your field PM or perhaps andysmith is the man. Happy myself that the jigsaw is coming together. The froth is now out of the sp, IMO.

Regarding orders, whilst it would be good to have more, the most imporatnt thing at the moment is the completion of the ASDA trials process which has the primary objective now of amassing evidence so that ASDA can reduce their payments to suppliers which effectively forces them to adopt the technology. Again, IMO, Wal-mart are surely sensible to await the completion of the process and then apply exactly the same approach. Nice to have another user but Stanelco are surely sensible to play the ASDA/Wal-Mart approach as it will give a rapid and effective roll-out which will also be manageable.

Having really added something of a note of caution in terms of RNS announcements re orders, I am re-building my CFD position and very comfortable in doing so.

i think this deal backs up what i was told by seo , that they had made loss making biotec profitable within a week!!! as pm1 says , the more they make, the less it costs!!
