THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Anecdotal evidence suggests people were unlawfully subletting their properties in the tower and are reluctant to come forward.

Grenfell Tower residents who were illegally subletting will not face prosecution, Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has said.

The Cabinet Minister said the move was guided by a concern that "loved ones still missing are identified".

The protection from prosecution applies to anyone coming to authorities with information about people who were in their flats at the time of the fire.

Anecdotal evidence from residents has indicated that people living in the tower block may have been unlawfully subletting their properties, and that they are reluctant to come forward and report others are missing because of the fear of reprisal.

Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders said: "It is a priority for investigators to establish who was in Grenfell Tower on that tragic day and it is crucial that we do everything possible to support them."

Guidance issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions said that tenants of Grenfell Tower who were subletting their properties and who "come forward to authorities" to share information "should not face prosecution for offences under section one of the Prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013".

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has said it will respect this guidance.

Mr Javid said: "Supporting those affected by the tragic events at Grenfell Tower has been the absolute priority of the Government. That includes making sure that loved ones still missing are identified. Therefore, I would urge those with information to come forward without fear of prosecution."

Iraq war: judge to review Tony Blair prosecution ban

Private criminal prosecution against former PM was blocked last year by courts giving Blair immunity against criminal charges

Tony Blair caused huge controversy when prime minister in deciding to take Britain into the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Vikram Dodd Police and crime correspondent

Wednesday 5 July 2017 06.00 BST

The most senior judge in England and Wales will hear a case attempting to overturn a ban on prosecuting Tony Blair over the Iraq war, the Guardian has learned.

A private criminal prosecution against the former Labour prime minister was blocked in 2016 by Westminster magistrates court when it was ruled Blair would have immunity from any criminal charges.

But that ruling by the district judge, Michael Snow, will be reviewed on Wednesday before the lord chief justice, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, and Mr Justice Ouseley.

The current attorney general, Jeremy Wright QC, wants the block on proceedings upheld. He will have a barrister in court to try to stop the attempted private prosecution.

The hearing follows a decision by the high court in May, which has not previously been reported. Then a high court judge said those wanting to prosecute Blair could have a hearing to seek permission for a court order allowing their case to go to the next stage. The judge in that case also said the attorney general could formally join in the case.

There is nothing to be gained by this case proceeding. The country has more than enough division as it is, although I do have a lot of sympathy for those families who lost kin in the war. I remember at the time that I was in favor of action against Saddam for fooling around with the North and South no-fly zones. Maybe that irritation was preferable to what followed but Saddam played with fire and everyone got burnt.

If the legal eagles can go after soldiers for doing what they are trained to do, then politicians who cause the problem in the first place are fair game too imo.

Stan - 05 Jul 2017 10:39 - 78325 of 81564

So what are you and the other Tory muppets on here going to do about it then Max?

MaxK - 05 Jul 2017 10:45 - 78326 of 81564
