THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

You mean:

Brexit: Vote Leave camp abandon £350m-a-week NHS vow in Change Britain plans

And of course two really honest down to earth politicians:

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb!

The two most honest politicians in Britain .

I would think they are far more intelligent than you Fred .

Brexit is tough for the UK now....let's go forward five years and the country might prosper with the trade deals in place by then....

Moggy news, to keep Fred happy :-)

Jacob Rees-Mogg could be about to become Tory leader – so it's vital we listen to what he really says about himself

Rees-Mogg says he has never changed a nappy. In 2014 he went canvassing with his former nanny Veronica, the woman who used to wipe his own bottom. And he's told us loud and clear what he really stands for, although Mumsnet forums seem not to want to listen

Jacob Rees-Mogg is ahead of Boris Johnson in the polls Getty

Jacob Rees-Mogg, currently second favourite to take over leadership of the Conservative party, is a politician I’ve watched with involuntary wonderment for over a decade. This is because day-to-day Rees-Mogg is quite impossible not to follow in jovial befuddlement. For this purpose, I understand the growing #moggmentum which has placed a man who appears on Question Time resembling a living, breathing Bash Street Kids "posho" caricature as a frontrunner to save the Tories from a political quagmire.

Mogg is a roaming Monty Python cameo; all briefcase, flappy legs and simmering patriarchal righteousness. He is a Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer-style riff on how our class system thrives, with his six children furnished with the names of 8th Century saints and Anglo-Saxon bishops. Rees-Mogg says he has never changed a nappy. In 2014 he went canvassing with his former nanny Veronica, the woman who used to wipe his own arse.

If you haven't yet seen Jacob Rees-Mogg in action, here he typically thrashes Mark Carney's answer with his question,""In general elections you do not give a view on parties' economic policies. Why not?"

Carney's answer to explain why a referendum is different from a general election fails to convince Rees-Mogg, and indeed, fails to convince any open-minded observer.

Rees-Mogg asked: "Don't you have a responsibility to be apolitical?"

Carney replied: "We are apolitical, which may be inconvenient for you, but to suggest otherwise is to try to undermine that."

Rees-Mogg: "I do suggest otherwise –"

Carney: "Then you try to undermine that."

Rees-Mogg asked if the Bank would give its opinion on Jeremy Corbyn's "new economics" speech, which proposed radical changes. "I don't think that's worth a reply," said Carney.

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/jacob-rees-mogg-just-gave-mark-carney-the-politest-of-beatings-a7044701.html

Rachel Reeves, the Labour MP and former employee of the Bank, added: "If anyone's reputation has been damaged today I don't think it is the Bank of England's."

The writer of the article, says, "I disagree. It would have been straightforward for the Bank to have said that the referendum was a political decision and that it would not comment on it at all. Rees-Mogg's questioning was a model of cross-examination."

IMHO, Jacob's Rees-Mogg's opinions, clarity of thought and use of the spoken word in expressing those opinions, enamours anyone to him who cares to listen to what he has to say.

It is then so easy to see 'the essence' of this man and it matters not, eg., as to whether he has ever changed a bay's nappy or not. :-)

Next Conservative Leader after Theresa May

ExecLine - 25 Jul 2017 12:42 - 78661 of 81564

Voters are tired of politicians who don't say what they think and don't necessarily mean what they say, and are drawn to figures with the confidence just to be themselves. That confidence arguably comes easier if you're descended from one of Britain's grandest families, married into another of them, and can therefore afford not to care much what others think of you.

Tuesday, early afternoon..Telcon......."4432 is unavailable"...so the Contact-Us message tells me.
BUT - that wasn't the Contact Us number I dialled.... Very ODD.
The reason.... well RioTinto is off today.... all other EPICS appear to work in the SharePrice box... but RIO goes to a "Cannot display message..."
Is everyone else having the same.... -or- does the Unobtainable EPIC vary over the country, perhaps?

Not so, Stan

Read the 'pop-up' carefully. It says, "Or continue using the site for free in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 seconds."

So just click on the 'Continue' which appears after the 'pop-up' has timed out.

MIDDLE class men have decided that when sex robots become widely available they will buy theirs from John Lewis.

Chartered accountant Tom Logan has weighed up the options and decided the John Lewis sexbot will combine luxury, affordability and discretion.

He said: “My friend Mark buys his electronics from Tesco, which is fine I suppose, but when it comes to sex robots it needs to be very good quality.

“The John Lewis sex robot will be tasteful, available in either mute ivory or dove grey with walnut detailing, and of course it’ll come with a five-year no-nonsense guarantee.”

Dentist Martin Bishop added: “It – she – will come with all the extra functions and speeds that fancy designer models do, but without all the intrusive labels or tacky celebrity voices.

“Yes, she’ll be more expensive than the ones from Ikea and Dixons and I’m sure some middle class men will get a German one from Aldi and claim it’s better and cheaper, but for me it will be worth paying the extra.”

Logan added: “And, of course, if it’s from John Lewis my wife will approve completely.”

No pop-up appears E/L on my browser, mind you it is an old one (I can't simply update to a new one at the mo). Be back later just nipping our for an hour or so.

Stan - 25 Jul 2017 22:35 - 78667 of 81564

Don't bother with the link I can tell you now who the next leader will be, my monies on Phillip Hammond.. you remember him the ever so shy one when General Elections come round.

MaxK - 25 Jul 2017 23:35 - 78668 of 81564

You can forget the Hammond wet dream Stan, it's not going to happen.

If he did manage to make it to the top, that would be the end of the tory party.

But there is a silver lining, Corby will kill the labour party sure as shit.

Nigel is talking about coming back, and that's the end of all your houses!

The great Brexit betrayal has begun. The Tories have sold out the British people - now even Jeremy Corbyn has a tougher stance

Nigel Farage

25 July 2017 • 9:00pm

When I heard that the government minister Lord Prior had told a meeting of tech and insurance leaders last week that they shouldn’t worry about barriers to entry for future employees from the EU, I thought he’d gone too far. How could a Brexit administration elected on a promise of reducing net migration to the tens of thousands tolerate such behaviour? Surely Lord Prior would be sacked?

Instead, it got worse. A new Cabinet consensus around transitional arrangements has been unveiled. Under it, open borders will be maintained for a minimum of two years after we finally leave the EU in 2019. Britain will have to wait until at least 2021 – five years after the Brexit referendum – to take back control. Millions who voted Leave will feel cheated, and rightly so: it’s clear the great Brexit betrayal has begun.

Stan,

I agree with you about Hammond.

Been watching him for 10+ years.

A quiet man, moving slowly up the very greasy tory pole.

Another quiet guy who comes over as a possibility for me is Greg Clark.

Quiet, thoughtful and presentable.

-=-===

But what a rag tag of a party.

Fred1new - 26 Jul 2017 09:41 - 78671 of 81564

Meanwhile, the tories start to dive in Max's American pool dream looking for a Trunp card.

Do you laugh or cry?

iturama - 26 Jul 2017 10:00 - 78672 of 81564

Personally. I dont see that as a betrayal Max. More common sense. We will need all the skills we can get when the country rids itself of the EU leeches and really starts to grow. Most of the EU workers I have seen in this country are prepared to graft because they see the rewards after a lifetime of no hope in their own countries. Accomodate them and boot out the illegals from elsewhere.

New diesel and petrol cars banned from UK roads by 2040

By Steven Swinford, Deputy Political Editor
26 July 2017 • 11:13am

Plans to ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars by 2040 in a bid to encourage people to buy electric vehicles are a "tall order" and will place unprecedented strain on the National Grid, motoring experts have warned.

Michael Gove, the Environment Secretary, has warned that Britain "can't carry on" with petrol and diesel cars because of the damage that they are doing to people's health and the planet. "There is no alternative to embracing new technology," he said.

However the AA warned that the National Grid would be under pressure to "cope with a mass switch-on after the evening rush hour", while Which? Car magazine warned that electric cars are currently more expensive and less practical.

Just 4 per cent of new car sales are for electric vehicles, and concerns have also been raised about whether Britain will have enough charging points for the new generation of cars.
