Jacob Rees-Mogg, currently second favourite to take over leadership of the Conservative party, is a politician I’ve watched with involuntary wonderment for over a decade. This is because day-to-day Rees-Mogg is quite impossible not to follow in jovial befuddlement. For this purpose, I understand the growing #moggmentum which has placed a man who appears on Question Time resembling a living, breathing Bash Street Kids "posho" caricature as a frontrunner to save the Tories from a political quagmire.

Mogg is a roaming Monty Python cameo; all briefcase, flappy legs and simmering patriarchal righteousness. He is a Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer-style riff on how our class system thrives, with his six children furnished with the names of 8th Century saints and Anglo-Saxon bishops. If you haven't yet seen Jacob Rees-Mogg in action, here he typically thrashes Mark Carney's answer with his question,""In general elections you do not give a view on parties' economic policies. Why not?"

Carney's answer to explain why a referendum is different from a general election fails to convince Rees-Mogg, and indeed, fails to convince any open-minded observer.

Rees-Mogg asked: "Don't you have a responsibility to be apolitical?"

Carney replied: "We are apolitical, which may be inconvenient for you, but to suggest otherwise is to try to undermine that."

Rees-Mogg: "I do suggest otherwise –"

Carney: "Then you try to undermine that."

Rees-Mogg asked if the Bank would give its opinion on Jeremy Corbyn's "new economics" speech, which proposed radical changes. "I don't think that's worth a reply," said Carney.

The writer of the article, says, "I disagree. It would have been straightforward for the Bank to have said that the referendum was a political decision and that it would not comment on it at all. Rees-Mogg's questioning was a model of cross-examination."

IMHO, Jacob's Rees-Mogg's opinions, clarity of thought and use of the spoken word in expressing those opinions, enamours anyone to him who cares to listen to what he has to say.

It is then so easy to see 'the essence' of this man and it matters not, eg., as to whether he has ever changed a bay's nappy or not. :-)

Voters are tired of politicians who don't say what they think and don't necessarily mean what they say, and are drawn to figures with the confidence just to be themselves. That confidence arguably comes easier if you're descended from one of Britain's grandest families, married into another of them, and can therefore afford not to care much what others think of you.

MIDDLE class men have decided that when sex robots become widely available they will buy theirs from John Lewis.

When I heard that the government minister Lord Prior had told a meeting of tech and insurance leaders last week that they shouldn’t worry about barriers to entry for future employees from the EU, I thought he’d gone too far. How could a Brexit administration elected on a promise of reducing net migration to the tens of thousands tolerate such behaviour? Surely Lord Prior would be sacked?

Instead, it got worse. A new Cabinet consensus around transitional arrangements has been unveiled. Under it, open borders will be maintained for a minimum of two years after we finally leave the EU in 2019. Britain will have to wait until at least 2021 – five years after the Brexit referendum – to take back control. Millions who voted Leave will feel cheated, and rightly so: it’s clear the great Brexit betrayal has begun.

Personally. I dont see that as a betrayal Max. More common sense. We will need all the skills we can get when the country rids itself of the EU leeches and really starts to grow. Most of the EU workers I have seen in this country are prepared to graft because they see the rewards after a lifetime of no hope in their own countries. Accomodate them and boot out the illegals from elsewhere.

I don't recall this being in anyones manifesto..



New diesel and petrol cars banned from UK roads by 2040

Plans to ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars by 2040 in a bid to encourage people to buy electric vehicles are a "tall order" and will place unprecedented strain on the National Grid, motoring experts have warned.

Michael Gove, the Environment Secretary, has warned that Britain "can't carry on" with petrol and diesel cars because of the damage that they are doing to people's health and the planet. "There is no alternative to embracing new technology," he said.

However the AA warned that the National Grid would be under pressure to "cope with a mass switch-on after the evening rush hour", while Which? Car magazine warned that electric cars are currently more expensive and less practical.

Just 4 per cent of new car sales are for electric vehicles, and concerns have also been raised about whether Britain will have enough charging points for the new generation of cars.
