I have a 3 monitor setup for my PC, 1 Videocard connects 1xVGA, 1xDVI and the 2nd Videocard connects 1xVGA

Put the PC on this morning, and 1 of the displays is not working, checked for viruses, adware updated drivers etc, the monitors got power and the display settings shows it in the menu and says its working OK, I can even move my icon off the primary monitor to the one thats off so it still thinks its there, I've tried the cables and found (I think) its the monitor connected to the DVI output

Can you help me with any other ideas??????

Have you tried swapping the monitors to check that they all work?

Optimist, its a bit difficult for me, but did pull the ones slightly out which were connected to VGA so only the DVI was still in and thats the one off plug is coloured blue if that helps

If I do need a new graphics card what do you recommend for a AMD sempron 3100+ 1.81GHz, if I remember its got AGPx8 slot, love it to handle all three but cost no more than 50-100 at the moment plus I want it to be good enough to put in new pc if need, I've got an ATI 9600 Dual VGA-DVI, and Sapphire ATI9250 PCI

I can't really recommend a graphics card, except to point out that many cards these days are aimed at 2D and 3D graphics and their considerable capabilities are good for gaming and photo work but will have little impact on a traders screen.

You need to swap the monitors over to make sure that it is not the cable or the monitor at fault. If it is the DVI output that is not working then get on Ebay and buy an adaptor.

You did not state which monitor appears to be duff.
Transpose the Vga leads between the two cards.
This should prove the monitors and cards.
For the DVI, if you have an output on the second card,
try that..
If you have a DVI/VGA adaptor try that monitor on
a VGA output.

tyketto, the monitor that seems to be off is the one connected to my 128mb Radeon 9600 AGPx8 Videocard which has a VGA and DVI connecter, it seems to be the one connect to the DVI output on this card thats not working now, even thou power light is on, and it shows up on display settings, I will have to wait untill I can get someone to come over to check and swap the cables around etc as I cant do it myself (in a wheelchair)

don't know whether it would be practical for you, but many monitors have removable cables on the monitor end. It may be easier to swap them around.

The mointor that is off is a sealed unit, doesnt even have a PSU just gets power from PC

Going away next week & need broadband, and it's in a spot with plenty of mobile network coverage but I won't have access to a landline, am going to get one of those Vodafone USB mobile broadband sticks.

I don't need to download a huge amount of data - just want to run Metatrader4 in the background overnight.

Has anyone any comments about them?

I have one and use it in the office in Brussels. I dont keep it on just log on now and then to MT4 to check on trades and EMail. Its expensive to use abroad but always picks up a 3G signal is plenty quick enough.

Not used it much in UK so not sure how much data it would use leaving it running overnight.

But they do work well.

Cant you just leave it running on your home PC and then set up remote access with something like logmein, then just pop into an internet cafe now and then to check it is still running. Also, not tried it but I know there is a version of MT4 for a mobile phone (smartphone). Im waiting for the iPhone version.

Could do Jeff but Mrs Clearly's not happy about running the PC whilst we're away, even though it's on whilst we're asleep!

edit - the idea of a VPS is very attractive, but it's like double dutch at the moment.

There should be no problem leaving a computer running, I do it with mine 24/365, you can always switch the monitor off.

I would personally not use something a insecure as Logmein, but many people do, and I have not heard of any specific security breaches so I'm probably being paranoid.

Assuming that you can't install a VPN, install TightVNC on your home computer with a 16 digit random password, create a rule in your router for it and you will be able to access your hope machine from anywhere.

If you go the VPS route, you'll need to ensure it's a Windows server as Linux is nbg for MT4.

Thanks folks. I think I might just leave my PC running at home or lappy at work but don't want the staff peeking! We leave all our PCs running at work so shouldn't be a problem really, but my home PC's creaking a bit now. Think I'll blow the dust out of it before I go away.Always switch the monitor and sound system off o/night anyway.

Longer term, Hiltops idea sounds great but I haven't got a bloody clue about this. I'll phone a friend!

BTW my XDA Orbit 2 runs windows mobile 6 professional. I can't get it to connect to my PC for backup, and I can't get mobile internet on it.I've tried the basic comms manager and the option for Data connection is greyed out. Can anyone help as I'm concerned I haven't done a backup for ages, and would also like to be able to use MT4 for Windows mobile. Can anyone think what I might have done wrong? I have done a backup in the past, so there's something stupid I haven't done.

I suppose I could just find a WiFi point,and access that as & when, but I may not even be near a wifi point for a few days.
