BTW my XDA Orbit 2 runs windows mobile 6 professional. I can't get it to connect to my PC for backup, and I can't get mobile internet on it.I've tried the basic comms manager and the option for Data connection is greyed out. Can anyone help as I'm concerned I haven't done a backup for ages, and would also like to be able to use MT4 for Windows mobile. Can anyone think what I might have done wrong? I have done a backup in the past, so there's something stupid I haven't done.

I suppose I could just find a WiFi point,and access that as & when, but I may not even be near a wifi point for a few days.

If you are worried about other people peaking at your computer, then you can always lock the screen. This works with Windows Remote Desktop, it may well work with Logmein but you would have to check it with TightVNC as using that may unlock the screen.

FWIW, there is another aspect you may have to consider - that of fire-risk.
If you have an industrial site then insurance cover will (probably) include leaving some electrics on 24/7.
However, at home the cover might include items like fridge/freezers and your video-recorder, since these are designed to be on. However, PC may not be rated for unattended operation and in the event of a Claim you might find the insurers will insist it is not covered.
+ Best to get their permission beforehand, eh?
You can reduce the consequences of component failure, by isolating the PC ( so it's not near inflamble material and providing a cool air supply, esp. in summer.
Providing good interference filtering is another precaution, but this should be something a little more professional than expensive "surge protectors" available from computer shops. Again you might ask your insurers to assist, although their expertise it unlikley to worth much, unless the filter meets some "recognised" Standard.

I think the only satisfactory solution is VPS hosting as Hiltops suggests. She's always one step ahead :-)

And I still haven't had a proper answer about the easy way to set up a VPS to run programs remotely 24/7. Look like it's leave the lappy on at work with a screensaver lock on.

The idea is simple, Flossie. You just rent some server space and are then given login/access details. Make sure it's a Windows server as MT4 doesn't like Linux. You then upload, install and run your own files and programs just as you would your own PC. You can run multiple instances of MT4 on the same VPS.

The only downside is that if there's a server outage, MT4 will need to be restarted manually. If you do it on an ongoing basis you really need some sort of regular IP pinging setup which sends a text message when there's a problem.

They'll do Flossie, but there are loads out there. You don't need much memory either. If it were me, I'd be quizing them on recent downtime logs before saying yes.

Has anybody any experience of MATSHITA UJ-840D Cd-rom drive.

It will read normal CDS as usual, but I am unable to copy files to a CD with it.

Have looked on the internet and there seems to be a fair amount of problems with this drive and it is without any obvious upgrade driver.

When trouble shooting it appears OK.

Did check with DRIVER DETECTIVE. The result suggested that I had about 20 out of date drivers. This made me a little suspicious as I have regularly updated from Sony, and the machine seems to be working otherwise.

Pressing F8 at boot should allow you to boot in safe mode.

I don't know your CD drive, but a common problem is that some other CD writing service has taken write ownership of the CD drive. Nero is particularly good at this.

I have Nero and it does some "wonderful" things. But even using Nero I can't write to CD on this drive.

Bit of a nuisance, but I am able to use the networks other writer.

@SC just read the spec on that VPS and they quote unlimited Bandwidth trust me that quote is rubbish as there is not such thing as 'unlimited' and also i noticed that you have to add the cpanel software on top of your monthly expense albeit it only a couple of quid but worth looking out for.

We use 3 server that have up to 3TB of bandwidth each for our streaming video sites and if we go over those limits we get hit hard,so we have to keep a close eye on the stats.

A lot of traders on another forum seem to use http://swvps.com/, Flossie. I know they had some outage issues a few weeks back, but they're probably sorted now. They've also got a UK base (it might be Ireland). You'll have to dig around to find the UK URL - I don't think it's .co.uk, but it might be .ie or something.
