The idea is simple, Flossie. You just rent some server space and are then given login/access details. Make sure it's a Windows server as MT4 doesn't like Linux. You then upload, install and run your own files and programs just as you would your own PC. You can run multiple instances of MT4 on the same VPS.

The only downside is that if there's a server outage, MT4 will need to be restarted manually. If you do it on an ongoing basis you really need some sort of regular IP pinging setup which sends a text message when there's a problem.

They'll do Flossie, but there are loads out there. You don't need much memory either. If it were me, I'd be quizing them on recent downtime logs before saying yes.

In the meantime I've asked somebody who uses VPS if they've any recommendation.

Has anybody any experience of MATSHITA UJ-840D Cd-rom drive.

It will read normal CDS as usual, but I am unable to copy files to a CD with it.

Have looked on the internet and there seems to be a fair amount of problems with this drive and it is without any obvious upgrade driver.

When trouble shooting it appears OK.

Did check with DRIVER DETECTIVE. The result suggested that I had about 20 out of date drivers. This made me a little suspicious as I have regularly updated from Sony, and the machine seems to be working otherwise.

Pressing F8 at boot should allow you to boot in safe mode.

I don't know your CD drive, but a common problem is that some other CD writing service has taken write ownership of the CD drive. Nero is particularly good at this.

I have Nero and it does some "wonderful" things. But even using Nero I can't write to CD on this drive.

Bit of a nuisance, but I am able to use the networks other writer.

@SC just read the spec on that VPS and they quote unlimited Bandwidth trust me that quote is rubbish as there is not such thing as 'unlimited' and also i noticed that you have to add the cpanel software on top of your monthly expense albeit it only a couple of quid but worth looking out for.

We use 3 server that have up to 3TB of bandwidth each for our streaming video sites and if we go over those limits we get hit hard,so we have to keep a close eye on the stats.

A lot of traders on another forum seem to use http://swvps.com/, Flossie. I know they had some outage issues a few weeks back, but they're probably sorted now. They've also got a UK base (it might be Ireland). You'll have to dig around to find the UK URL - I don't think it's .co.uk, but it might be .ie or something.

Any help would be great. I have A V G and also spamfighter on my computer both free. Now the last few weeks i have been getting 1000's of spam most go into the spam folder, but all of a sudden i am getting loads of new spam. which i block straight away The spamfighter tells me i have reached full, is their anyway i can clear out the spamfighter and is their anyway to try and stop all the spam, would changing my e.mail address work. thanks Mary

I'm not familiar with those programs so can't comment on them.

If you are having 1000's of spam emails, then you have either been careless with your email address, are very unlucky or you may have or have had a virus that broadvast your email address to the world.

Changing your email address would stop it, so long as you don't mind people not being able to contact you. It would not be a good idea to email all of your contact list with your new address, because there is a good chance that your address has found it's way on to the spammers lists because a compromised computer has your name in the address book.

Some ISP's have spam filters, and some of them work OK but some not so good - DYOR

What email client are you using? IMO, the best is MS Outlook (not Outlook Express), if you want a good free one then download Mozilla Thunderbird. Both of these has the ability to apply rules to incoming emails and permanently delete them. If you are getting so much spam, I would suggest a rule to put mail from your contact list into your inbox, a few rules set up to recognise some of the most common words in the subject lines - these should permanently delete the emails. The remainder should be sent to the junk folder for manual deletion.

There are also a load of paid for solutions many of which will work but again, DYOR.
