FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Well you have been patient cynic, well done. Rising oil price?

cynic - 21 Feb 2012 15:23 - 7903 of 21973

hardly; i took my initial short only a few days ago and have now added to it ...... i think the market looks toppy and certainly my chartist guru reckons it is time to short the dow too .... have also sold the balance of my aapl, though i am sure i shall buy back in there in due course; ditto goog

Chris Carson - 21 Feb 2012 15:33 - 7904 of 21973

Perhaps patience was the wrong word then :O) Not sure I would have had the bottle to be short the Dow over the last weekend. Of course you are not there yet, but I do agree I think the indeces have to come down a bit to go higher hopefully.

skinny - 21 Feb 2012 15:34 - 7905 of 21973

Cynic - I posted the 13,000? as the DOW was looking above that level late Friday/Yesterday. Good luck with the short - it does all look very toppy.

halifax - 21 Feb 2012 16:28 - 7906 of 21973

cynic - 21 Feb 2012 16:44 - 7908 of 21973

dow teases at 13000 but so far is unable to breach and hold ..... i'm happy to stay short and indeed have increased that yet again

halifax - 21 Feb 2012 16:48 - 7909 of 21973

cynic exactly as we predicted in 7897 keep building the spaceships!

cynic - 21 Feb 2012 17:23 - 7910 of 21973

i don't see either of us being correct at the moment!
will the spaceship beat the flying shuttle or vice versa?

tomasz - 21 Feb 2012 19:04 - 7911 of 21973

apart from bailout nonsense..every rising 10 cents on oil cost US $1bil/month more -oil gone up some $10 this month alone...and rally mode on?...

cynic - 21 Feb 2012 20:03 - 7912 of 21973

glad to see my short is now in the money; not hugely but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

tomasz - 21 Feb 2012 20:36 - 7913 of 21973

cynic - 21 Feb 2012 20:39 - 7914 of 21973

tomasz - 21 Feb 2012 21:51 - 7915 of 21973
