THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Nick Clegg deserves his gongship for services rendered to the nation.

He led the dim/libs up the garden path/hill and then rode them back down into the valley of electoral death.

The man is a hero imo!

Perhaps, when he entered the coalition government he wasn't as self-serving as I suspect you would have been.

Probably he put the country before his own or party's interests.

Dil - 31 Dec 2017 10:06 - 79757 of 81564

Feck me that would have been a first for a politician Fred.

Fred1new - 31 Dec 2017 12:59 - 79758 of 81564

Dil.

Don't judge everybody else by your own standards.

Happy New Year to everyone.

This is the list everyone is trying to get themselves onto. Hope you manage to get onto it, even if its a position at somewhere around the 1,000,000th mark or so:

The daily 'Ups' and 'Downs' of the world's richest men

As I write, James Dyson, who makes those very good vacuum cleaners, is at 147th position with his $9.77B pile.

I see too, that at the last change he was up £124m and he is up $5.11B on the year to date.

Wikipedia tells me he is buying up acres and acres of agricultural and other land with his money and also developing some of it to sell on at a profit.

cynic - 31 Dec 2017 20:54 - 79760 of 81564

and why should he not?
why do you buy shares? ..... there's no real difference

iturama - 01 Jan 2018 10:22 - 79761 of 81564

Happy New Year everyone and best wishes to those that departed us in the last year.. Tanker, Mental et al. I have a Dyson vac, I got caught up in the hype, but have since realised there is actually nothing to beat 'ol Henry and it is a fraction of the price of a Dyson.

jimmy b - 02 Jan 2018 11:01 - 79762 of 81564

Happy New Year ...

iturama your right , the Henry has no filters it's straight through ,the builders use them to suck up fragments of brick and brick dust when working in houses , all for a hundred quid , can't beat them .

ExecLine - 02 Jan 2018 11:22 - 79763 of 81564

And kittens too?

Henrys are for chavs, IMHO. ;-)

Dysons are much more fashionable and have a much, much bigger second hand market too. (Don't forget to keep the box)

jimmy b - 02 Jan 2018 11:41 - 79764 of 81564

Why would you sell your vacuum ?

cynic - 02 Jan 2018 11:45 - 79765 of 81564

where's the market for a 2nd-hand sucking thingy?

ExecLine - 02 Jan 2018 11:52 - 79766 of 81564

Why would you sell your vacuum ?

1. Well, it might still have some good life in it. But if it's kept much longer it might become much more difficult to sell to anyone.

2. You have the money and want to try something new. It's also a bit of fun and helps to defray costs to knock the old one out on, say Ebay. (Don't forget to keep the box).

Haystack - 02 Jan 2018 11:58 - 79767 of 81564

Look on eBay and you will find loads of second hand vacuum cleaners including lots of Dysons and Henrys.

iturama - 02 Jan 2018 12:19 - 79768 of 81564

I suppose there is a market for second hand vacuums at the car washing joints. But all that I have seen are Henry's. They know better than to use a useless Dyson that gets clogged if it sucks up a fruit gum.

cynic - 02 Jan 2018 12:26 - 79769 of 81564

this dialogue could rapidly go down hill :-)

iturama - 02 Jan 2018 12:37 - 79770 of 81564

We haven't got on to Hetty yet...

required field - 02 Jan 2018 13:01 - 79771 of 81564

The dysons are ideal for your own home carpets.....(not for rental purposes) : they are a little fragile but just use them carefully are they will last years, don't knock them over or bang into things.......little henry's are ideal for tougher jobs.....

ExecLine - 02 Jan 2018 14:09 - 79772 of 81564

Upgraded to a 'Handheld - Dyson V8 Absolute Pro' just after Christmas. I'll give it 5* too. Haven't even needed to switch to 'Max' yet.

Our 3 yr old previous 'Handheld - Dyson DC35 MutiFloor' is still in absolutely excellent condition. I'll give it 4*. We take care of all of our stuff and this for example, is kept scrupulously clean and has its filter washed regularly too. It was immediately spoken for in that my daughter has quickly nabbed it for her caravan before I can sell it on.

Anyone think we could start a 'MoneyAM Classifieds' thread? I reckon we could sell our used PCs, monitors and other stuff, like Dysons on it and maybe even more. Perhaps, we might need a moderator (volunteer?) for it if and when it became fairly popular.

cynic - 02 Jan 2018 14:25 - 79773 of 81564

my beloved won't touch dyson .... she reckons they're rubbish - too expensive, too heavy and (i think) likely to throw dust everywhere when you empty them

Haystack - 02 Jan 2018 15:30 - 79774 of 81564

Certainly heavy
