Midlands Investors' Forum (MIF)

schober - 22 Oct 2004 18:55

We are a group of people who currently meet bimonthly at the Manor Hotel, Meriden (on the B4102 almost opposite thee duck pond).
See http://www.manorhotelmeriden.co.uk/
Meriden is half way between Birmingham and Coventry.

Our numbers have gradually declined over the past several months and we are now down to four. We would like to invite any Moneyamrs in the area to come along to our meetings. We currently meet mid week from 7.30 PM; there is no charge.
We discuss the outlook for the $, SPX, FTSE, metals and bonds. We look at things from a fundamental and chart view (including point & figure). We also discuss individual stocks, but tend to concentrate more on “the big picture”. There is no fixed agenda and discussion follows peoples current interests and concerns.
If you are at all interested then post a message below. I hope to have the next meeting at the end on Nov.

Regards Schober

All change for UK interest rates?
(Filed 07/11/2004)

It was no surprise that the Bank of England left interest rates unchanged last week. But for all that, monetary policy has still not quite become boring in the way that Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, hopes it one day will.

For interest rates may be approaching a turning point far more quickly than markets and commentators had imagined....................................................................more

Outlook for China and copper prices remains positive
Hilary Cook
November 07, 2004 6:00 AM (GMT)
OVER the past few weeks, stocks in the mining sector have declined on the back of steep falls in metals prices. Yet, as the chart shows, copper has been enjoying a strong surge over 2004. We think the more recent declines in metals prices will be short-lived. Hence, we view falls in mining stocks as a buying opportunity for investors seeking to enter the sector........................................................more

Following on from Tuesdays nights meeting

Re Cash

By the end of this week, Richard Mason, 40, from Bramshall in Staffordshire, will be saving himself 3,587 a year or almost 300 a month tax free in interest on his offset mortgage with Abbey.
He took out the 5.25% offset mortgage a year ago when he and his family moved to a five-bedroom farmhouse. And he estimates that at this rate he could pay off his 240,000 mortgage ten years early.
Richard currently 'owes' a total of 44,986 on four credit cards - each of them charging no interest. He has 15,021 on MBNA Platinum, 14,065 with First Direct Gold, 1,900 on his Egg Blue card and 14,000 on an Abbey card.
But he hasn't spent the money. Instead, it's sitting in an Abbey savings account linked to his mortgage.
He has also just been accepted for a 10,000 interest-free loan until March 1, from internet bank Cahoot, and his Egg Green card has just offered him six months interest-free as a special offer on the anniversary of him taking out the card - so he will transfer 10,000 from Egg into his savings.

hilldee - 18 Nov 2004 11:12 - 21 of 42

I must confess, Schober, I nicked your site with the intention of establishing if there was any interest in the area indicated. So far the only response seem s to be from you.
