EMI tastic (EMI)

proptrade - 18 Mar 2005 09:33

anyone follow this?

new managers in from warner music, potential t/o target from the same (from the Times yeaterday) and Wellington continue to add to their stake.

profit warnings out the way, coldplay album released to critical acclaim...could be interesting.

proptrade - 05 Apr 2005 10:57 - 8 of 23

it certainly would be! are you a long term holder?

Frampton - 05 Apr 2005 16:58 - 9 of 23

Very long term - I've had them since they were Thorn Emi, 20 years or more, though I've sold alot on the way. Not intending to sell anymore untill they are much higher - so that'll be into old age then!

proptrade - 06 Apr 2005 11:13 - 10 of 23

understood! i am a new holder after the latest profit warnings.

i just take the view that the upheaval in the music industry has plateaued and we will see an uptick in legal downloads and back catalogues which will benefit the industry.

Warner merger rumours help as well and for the record (no pun intended) i think we will see an earnings surprise at next results/guidance.

5 million block went throught today...

Frampton - 19 Apr 2005 14:09 - 12 of 23

There was an article in the Guardian on Saturday, saying EMIs annual music sales were not as disappointing as forecast two months ago.

proptrade - 19 Apr 2005 14:18 - 13 of 23

thx, i hadn't seen that.

there was also a two page article (yes a two page spread) in the Times yesterday, and tons of other references to the Coldplay release. by all accounts is could turn EMI back strongly. PR is working overtime and i expect from the revies so far this could play out quickly in the shareprice.

thx for posting Frampton, i usually feel so alone on this thread..just you and me!

Frampton - 19 Apr 2005 17:59 - 14 of 23

Proptrade, I hope your right about EMI coming back strongly. That part of my portfolio could do with a boost. What was the main gist of the Times article, I didn't see that one.
Frampton (I normally just lurk on this site rather than post, I'll try not to leave you lonely on this thread though! There is more life on Advn about EMI, but it's usually just short term traders)

proptrade - 20 Apr 2005 11:09 - 15 of 23

the gist of the publication is similar to the PR spin that has been on most newswires over the last few days...and even made the homepage of Yahoo.com today.

simly that EMI is relying heavily on early summer releases and they should be HUGE hits according to reviews. These key album is by Coldplay and could and should lead to a revival of EMI.

Also doing the rounds is the takeover rumour in the light of the Warner music IPO. not sure if the whisper has legs but it has been hanging around for quite a long time.

On top of that it looks like music is in the midst of a revival with the download market stemming the losses from the CD sales fall off and looks set to grow strongly. this is highlighted by the revamped top 40 chart which now included downloads in its compilation (along with single sales and airplay).

hope this hasn't bored you too much and if we have some other lurkers on this thread they come out come out and give us some views!

Frampton - 20 Apr 2005 16:44 - 16 of 23

Thanks Proptrade. It certainly hasn't bored me. The Guardian article covered pretty much the same things - though in much less detail no doubt as it didn't cover 2 pages!
All good news then, onwards and upwards.

proptrade - 21 Apr 2005 10:37 - 17 of 23

i hope, in the meantime a joke to brighten your day...

A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible".

"What do you mean?" said the pirate, "I feel fine"

"What about the wooden leg? You didn't have that before."

"Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I'm fine now".

"Well, ok, but what about that hook? What happened to your hand?"

"We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I'm fine, really".

"What about that eye patch?"

"Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them shit in my eye".

"You're kidding," said the bartender, "you couldn't lose an eye just from some bird doo-doo?"

"It was my first day with the hook"

Frampton - 21 Apr 2005 16:17 - 18 of 23

Very entertaining, though I already spotted it on the Sterling thread (I have a few of those as well).

proptrade - 21 Apr 2005 16:25 - 19 of 23

ahh. those are the only places i posted this joke. quite bullish of SEY. what do you think?

Frampton - 22 Apr 2005 11:39 - 20 of 23

Hi Proptrade,
I only hold a few SEY bought due to being attracted to a thread with millions of postings on it - don't know as much about them as other posters on the bb. Having held for a few months now I am feeling more confident on them and would like to add when funds allow, though I feel there is no hurry to do so, maybe in the autumn? it would be nice to get my current holding in profit before adding (currently 10% down).

I think the suggested 2 billion offer represents a premium of 28.75 p a share

lanayel - 04 May 2007 10:18 - 23 of 23

Takeover fever today with Hanson, Reuters and EMI the next three bits of UK plc under threat from Johnny foreigner !!!!

In the case of EMI it must be noted that the Company rejected a 260p per share offer from Warner in March.

Today they say that there are several interested parties.

With the shares currently around the 246/247p mark I think there is a bit of scope (still) for those thinking about getting in.
