MADOFF (PONZ)

halifax - 30 Jun 2009 13:41

So Bernie gets his free place in a secure retirement home, but where is the money. Perhaps the feds should start digging on Mt Sion?

spitfire43 - 05 Jul 2009 23:03 - 80 of 268

And my favourite one, a bit off thread I admit.....................

Somebody's seen my game

It was a sunny morning, a little before 8:00 AM, on the first hole of a busy course, and I was beginning my pre-shot routine, visualizing my upcoming shot when a piercing voice came over the clubhouse loudspeaker:

"Would the gentleman on the women's tee please back up to the men's tee, please?"

I could feel every eye on the course looking at me. I was still deep in my routine, seemingly impervious to the interruption.

Again the announcement: "Would the man on the women's tee please back up to the men's tee, please!"

I simply ignored the guy and kept concentrating, when once more the man yelled, "Would the man on the women's tee please back up to the men's tee, please!"

I finally stopped, turned, cupped my hands and shouted back....

"Would the asshole with the microphone kindly keep quiet and let me play my second shot?!"

cynic you are of course entitled to your view of Madoff, however it has become quite apparent from interviews with his jewish victims that they would not have invested their savings with his firm had he not been a jew.

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 12:21 - 82 of 268

in that respect, i would possibly or even probably not disagree with you, especially with regard to the "moms and pops".
however, had Madoff been of a different persuasion or similar, he would assuredly have been just as successful a swindler, though the victims would (generally) have been different - which is the point i have been trying to make from the off

and of course, had SEC not been so willfully purblind to factual evidence, they would have acted years ago

Clubman3509 - 06 Jul 2009 12:33 - 83 of 268

The inevitable accusations — and perhaps criminal charges — against his co-conspirators, and particularly his family, are sure to continue. And another troubling aspect of the Madoff fraud has emerged in the past few weeks. It is now being alleged that certain charitable foundations and individuals on the whole reaped profits in the millions, if not billions of dollars, from Mr. Madoff’s misdeeds

They should be made to give it back, but I doubt any Jewish controlled fund would do that.

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 12:42 - 84 of 268

just behave yourself!
what difference would it make if it is a jewish or a pantheistic or totally secular charity?

in fact, what i think you have picked up on is the rumour that people who cashed in their investments - and there were inevitably an awful lot of them over the years - will be compelled to repay all profits thus made, even though they are and were innocent of misdeed or prior knowledge of the fraudulent nature of the "investment fund".

to my mind, that would be completely and utterly unjust - but an interesting point of law.

i am sure someone on here will know the UK law surrounding such things, assuming the same applies to the innocent acquisition and sale of stolen goods, always assuming reasonable precautions were taken to establish initial provenance

Brave warrior behing your keyboard,

Clubman3509 - 06 Jul 2009 12:57 - 88 of 268

Why has anti-Semitism been so pervasive in so many countries, in so many time periods and for so many reasons? (One begins to wonder. Perhaps there is something wrong with the Jews and Judaism? After all, there is an old Yiddish saying -- "If one person calls you a donkey, ignore him; if two people call you a donkey, buy a saddle.")

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 13:11 - 89 of 268

i would more than happily say the same to your face.

in fact, though the jews have indeed been persecuted across the centuries, there's been plenty of evil and worse perpetrated against christians, cathars, catholics, muslims and many many others, all masquerading as being in the name of "the true faith".

and then of course there are a myriad examples of actual or attempted genocide even within the last century, and not necessarily with any obvious "justification"

Clubman3509 - 06 Jul 2009 14:55 - 90 of 268

That would be a big mistake on your part.

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 15:06 - 91 of 268

ooh dear ...... is your daddy bigger than mine then, or do you have a brigade of quasi brownshirts on call? ...... def quaking in my boots

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 15:10 - 93 of 268

quite right tabby, but some here feel they have to apply identifiable labels, so just being "bad guy" does not suit their criteria

halifax - 06 Jul 2009 16:16 - 94 of 268

cynic being jewish is no more an idenifiable label than being muslim, hindu or christian, you are delibeerately trying to cloud the issue that Madoff is the worst kind of conman by using his religion to steal from as you say the "moms and pops" who trusted him because he is a jew. If only he could be persuaded by his fellow jews to disclose where he has hidden the money he stole.

Clubman3509 - 06 Jul 2009 16:24 - 95 of 268

They should crucify the thieving bastard, and his family should be jailed for life, or at least sent to live in Palestein

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 16:30 - 96 of 268

whatever the sentiment, it has to be an absolute certainty that BM was not acting on his own .... exactly who else was knowingly involved may never be discovered, though i cannot believe even SEC will allow this issue to rest ..... after all, they need to find a scapegoat for their own culpability

Fred1new - 06 Jul 2009 16:45 - 97 of 268

Clubman, one of the reasons for Jews being picked on, is that they are generally in the minority groupings in any country, other than Israel. If you want to pick a fight the minority group are often a safe bet. One can vilify first and then jump upon and beat up. Especially useful when a diversion or a scapegoat is needed. (Speaker Martin is a typical example of this. The problem of "expenses" has not gone away, but attention has been deviated away from the crooked.)

Also, another factor is that some strands of Jews overtime, have been very successful in the "financial markets" money leding and the lenders of money for financing "wars" etc.

Sometimes, when the "wars" were over, the borrowers who did not wish to refund the lenders "turned on" and use various other ways, or excuses, to denigrate and attack the minority group. No doubt, hoping to excuse their own responsibilities by driving the annoyances or those they were indebted to, from their areas and their "homelands".

Similar, in many ways, to the Israeli "settlers" who drive Arabs off the land owned by generations of Arabs in Israel.

cynic - 06 Jul 2009 16:49 - 98 of 268

interestingly, jews were also singled out during times of plague, for their hygiene laws made them less prone to being infected - de facto, if they didn't catch the plague, they must have caused it

Balerboy - 06 Jul 2009 17:43 - 99 of 268

I hate to say this, (and it's not because we have a personal relationship going on, on the asc board) but I agree with cynic, the majority of investers put their savings with Madoff because of what they could read and hear of his investments and holdings. Just the same as we could have put our savings into the Icelandic bank or any of the other's offering high returns and loosing the lot. A few of the Jewish community would have trusted him on faith, but most were in for the so called high returns and business ventures. He was good at his job... scamming.
