It's a nice little earner for the banks. Borrow money at near 0%, and lend it out on guaranteed repayment loans at 6% .. I'd have some of that, but of course, no chance for us punters.

Suppose you are visiting an island populated by knights who always tell the truth, knaves who always lie, and jokers who can do either.

You meet three islanders named Ellis, Farin, and Gobi. They make the following statements:

Qn. If you know for sure that only one islander is a joker, then how many of the islanders are knights?

Scottish 16-year-olds sitting their exams 'have reading age of only 13'

Many 16-year-old pupils sitting their National exams have the reading ability of a 13-year-old or lower, according to a damning literacy study that prompted intensified criticism of the SNP’s decade-long education record.

The literacy and assessment provider Renaissance UK said secondary school pupils in Scotland were not reading challenging enough books and potentially harming their ability to properly understand exam papers.

It is calling for more dedicated time for reading in secondary school after looking at the reading performance of 29,524 pupils across Scotland for the What Kids are Reading Report.

The study found an emphasis on literacy development in primary schools which sees pupils...

May it have something to do with having 30 different languages to deal with in the classroom MaxK nowadays , just guessing .

Many 16-year-old pupils sitting their National exams have the reading ability of a 13-year-old or lower ...... and across engalnd or even uk as a whole, many aren't even that accomplished

overall, attainment across the immigrant sector is probably much higher for many, especially from the subcontinent or further afield, come from cultures with high aspirations for their children

only that when i learned, biros were forbidden .... in fact, once we were past the pencil stage, we were taught to write using dip-pens - they were great as darts too :-)

numeracy is even better targeted, as many children only know that a % is a button on their calculator and the application of even basic mental arithemetic would leave them floored

I used to scotch together pens and pencils so I could write my lines out quicker........didn't fool the teacher though....ended up getting more.....

MaxK - It does as far as those that have used the money wisely. The government can devalue what they might owe to the Banks etc. at any time they wish, in the same way as the pound in your pocket 50 years ago bought a lot more than it does today.

Money is all a matter of trust and in itself is worthless, it is the biggest fraud of all, and when the trust goes, so goes the paper in your pocket and the numbers on any bank statement that you may have.

I remember doing the:

This 'Corbyn is a spy' stuff is getting to be past a joke, IMHO.

We can't really believe a word of it any longer and I think the young Tory MP, Ben Bradley, ought to now strongly consider resigning. His only redeeming position might occur, if some very strong information or good evidence about this actually being true hits the media very quickly.

A meeting with Putin, doesn't turn anyone into being a Russian spy and similarly, Corbyn can historically have met any Czech or Russian 'diplomat' but the doing of it doesn't necessarily mean he was a spy for doing so, does it?

Don't be daft EL. It was Sarkocy that said Corbyn was a paid informer and there is documentary evidence that Corbyn met him on at least three occasions. Even the former head of MI6 has said Corbyn has questions to answer, perhaps on the charge of gross stupidity in meeting a known Soviet agent, later expelled by Maggie, at the time of the Cold War.
There is a big diffference between members of the government, or official delegations, meeting with diplomats from a hostile State and a back bench MP having private meetings with a known spy.

I saw a liberal talking to a tory 30 years ago.

I think all tories and liberals should be jailed for conspiracy.
