THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

RIP

Sir Roger Bannister - the first athlete to run a sub-four minute mile - dies aged 88

I had a mate at the time (Roy) who was about 16 yrs old. Roy had been clocked at school and could run 1 mile in 4 mins 15 secs. He was totally and utterly inspired by Bannister and really wanted to beat the 4 min mark for his mile time.

He signed up for the Army and I lost touch with him. I did hear, that he became a Sergeant.

I often wonder if he managed it? I like to think, that he did.

I'm sure Roger Bannister inspired thousands of amateur runners.

RIP

Changing tack....

Get yourself round to ToysRUs.

No need to rush though. They have reduced a lot of their stock by as much as 10%. Yes. That much!

I nosied myself round there yesterday: Lots of people about, dragging empty blue long-handled trollies around the 'sopping wet melted-snow floor' of the store looking for bargains - but not finding any.

Poor value. Even when they've gone bust and need to liquidate the stock - or do they?

At the moment the tories need it at the moment to swallow theirs.

Look at the markets.

Fred1new - 04 Mar 2018 19:50 - 80298 of 81564

Exec.

Are you sure you weren't in Toryrus?

No wonder, nobody was buying

VICTIM - 05 Mar 2018 08:50 - 80299 of 81564

I think Freda was one of Blair's spin merchants , let's be honest that's all he does , look at the markets he says it's aaaaalllllllllll the Tories fault , yes it is .

jimmy b - 05 Mar 2018 08:59 - 80300 of 81564

He blamed the cold spell on Brexit !

Chris Carson - 05 Mar 2018 09:17 - 80301 of 81564

Pity his Missus, he must be a riot at parties.

Clocktower - 06 Mar 2018 13:10 - 80302 of 81564

Do you really think Fred would attend any party other than those paid for by his party?

Why bring any partner he may or may not have into the discussion, and surely you must question if they would go along with him - and even if he has a partner are you seriously pitying them? After all, unless he has them locked in and tied down, they are free to join the Tory Party, and really enjoy life in the fast lane.

Chris Carson - 06 Mar 2018 14:02 - 80303 of 81564

In the 70's Fred's wife complained bitterly that he never took her out anywhere. Then one Saturday he gave her a dig at six o'clock that morning.... "You coming to the strike meeting or what?" She gave up :0)

80304 - what a ridiculous idea ...... and hence why they're all laughing

Clocktower - 07 Mar 2018 16:35 - 80307 of 81564

EL - how long could SH carried on with the paper you posted the link too? What more might he have said?

Time waits for no man, time seems to have no limits whichever way you look at it.

ExecLine - 07 Mar 2018 19:16 - 80308 of 81564

I'm not sure what to reply to that.

Anyhow, there are lots and lots of people on a personal quest to find out what life is all about and importantly, if there is 'a god creator'.

For an inquisitive person on that type of topic, Hawkins stuff is really necessary reading - or better still, 'YouTube watching'.

Another one to watch on YouTube if you are on the same journey, is stuff by Richard Dawkins. There are lots of very good debates between this 'champion of the atheists' and religious opposition.

To get you thinking and laughing too, look on YouTube for the now dead comedian, George Carlin.
