Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

No more French, German, Italian, Spanish cars then, indeed no one will be able to export to anyone...where did they get this rubbish from?

Free trade agreements require that about 60% of goods must originate from within the countries making the agreement. Mr Hawes said: "The average car made in the UK has 44% of its components from UK suppliers. How much of that 44% actually comes from the UK, bearing in mind those suppliers are buying in supply chains from all over the world? The figure is more like 25%, which is a long way from the 60% threshold you would need to qualify for a free trade agreement.

Apparently, this gang of rebellious 'anti-Brexiteers, well, isn't. But golly gosh, it's really getting complicated, isn't it?

(Thinks.... can you still say, "golly gosh" or is it, like, say, rape? Hmmm?)

Moving on, I do think this year's 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' show is going to be one of the best ever and I'm quite looking forward to it.

Fred1new - 15 Nov 2017 09:09 - 8060 of 12628

Will Theresa, Rees, Bill and Boris be appearing on the Celebrity Get Me Out or will they have already left the country for the Caymans?

Dil - 15 Nov 2017 09:11 - 8061 of 12628

Why do the remoaners think they can unilaterally change the date of us leaving the EU ?

We are leaving on 29/03/19 ... ask Junkit and Barny if you don't believe me.

499 days to go.

Here's the latest contribution from my Tory hero, Jacob Rees-Mogg:

We must give NHS £350m a week post-Brexit
Richard Vaughan 20 hours
Tuesday November 14th 2017

Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg demanded the Government deliver on the promise to give £350m a week to the NHS made by the Leave campaign during the EU referendum.

The controversial pledge, which was plastered on the side of the Vote Leave bus during the Brexit debate, was immediately abandoned after the country voted in favour of to leave the bloc last year. But Mr Rees-Mogg, who is one of the leading advocates for Brexit, called on the Treasury to make the money available to the health service once Britain leaves the EU.

A promise was made “Although I did not want the £350m figure to be used [during the referendum] it was used and the electors believed the promise was made,” the MP for North East Somerset said. “Politicians cannot and should not hide behind the small print like some disreputable businesses do, but must recognise the commitment was accepted in broad terms not in petty detail.

“We promised £350m to the NHS, so we must deliver it,” he added.

His comments come just a week after the head of NHS England Simon Stevens made a similar demand from the Government. Mr Stevens took the unusual step to make a direct plea to ministers for additional funding saying the public wanted to see the promise honoured.

The £350m a week figure became one of the most contentious issues during the EU referendum campaign, and even drew criticism from the UK Statistics Authority and Institute for Fiscal Studies for being in accurate. The sum of money was blamed by many Remain supporters for misleading voters.

Mr Rees-Mogg said the extra funds, which would amount to £18.2bn a year, would come from a dividend of around £135bn that would come from leaving the EU.

Free trade approach

Speaking at an Economist for Free Trade event in central London, Mr Rees-Mogg claimed the UK would see a substantial windfall following Brexit as he called for a raft of tax cuts, tearing up of red tape and a wholesale scrapping of trade tariffs.

“This is a free trade approach that focuses on consumers not producers; one that will generate gains to consumers seven times the cost to producers,” he said. “This is a classical view of the world that has economic history and the latest economic modelling on its side. “This is a free trade approach to Government which believes Britain’s greatest days lies before it and not behind it.”
