Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

i note the quick swerve away from LHR runway ....
i have no idea what is happening with brexit negotiations and confess i really can't be bothered to follow them at all
eventually there'll be some fudge - or not - and i for one will just get on with life
others can whine and whinge and snipe both in the interim and after the event

I'm sure a deal will be done at the 11th hour
fully concur, as happened with greece and italy and a few others too

The deal will be a status quo without the UK having a place at the table and having to accept the rules and regulations as set in Brussels and at a higher price than we are paying now.
The EU countries will want compensation for the disruption which Cameron and cronies have created.
I would like to know the cost of the upheaval is and bill Cameron and Osborne for them.
Mind I suppose the Chancellor's raising "personal" taxes will pay the bills.

You remind me of sitting on a rock in the middle of the river Dordogne some years back and allowing the water to flow over me.
Temperature 39deg Centigrade.
I miss France.
Enjoy it.

i'm sure you know what shadow pm JC would have done and how he would have tackled everything - or would he have just ignored the referendum result?
we'll never know, but of course i am sure you do

I do, Fred, but you should know that nowadays they have things called brumisateurs which spray a mist of cold water over you when the temperature hits 39.

Manuel,
Both Jeremy and you have grown old.
Unlike you, Jeremy has grown up and matured well, while you appeared stunted and retarded or well past your sell-by date.

Hils.
When the deal is done probably it will be cheered by some of the idiots in government and some of those on this thread without acknowledging that necessary reform and changes could be obtained without alienating the rest of Europe. (Leaving out the latent fascists who may be rejoicing.)
That is the sad thing about what is happening.

Bollox Fred we been trying to get the EU to reform for years and nothing has changed.
As for the cost of the upheaval , take it out of the money we won't be sending to Brussels.

infinitely more interesting than fred - or even football .......
sudden surge in the markets is almost certainly due to the note below (ex FT)
Steel users file legal challenge to Trump’s tariffs
A group of steel users has filed the first known legal challenge to steel tariffs imposed by Donald Trump earlier this year.
In a suit filed with the US Court of International Trade in New York on Wednesday the American Institute for International Steel and two of its member companies argue that the US president’s move is unconstitutional. They also challenge Mr Trump's invocation of a 1962 law to impose the 25 per cent tariff on national security grounds.

What is stopping you Fred, are you an illegal immigrant, and prevented from entering France again?
Some of that water must have got in your head and damaged your brain.

Surely the story of the week is the finding of the 12 boys and their football trainer in flooded caves in Thailand. They were found on a ledge in an inner cave by British divers. The trick now is getting them all out. I have no idea what lies between them and safety, but I assume it is not simple since there is talk of perhaps weeks training them to use diving equipment.

Hope they get the kids out quickly if not move them to a bigger cave because of flooding....potholing/cave exploring is a very very extreme and dangerous sport !...

Do you have a bigger cave in mind rf? I have read nothing about oxygen concerns so either the cave system is very big or air is getting in somehow. I don't believe the kids are in any danger of flooding; they are above the flood level and at over 800m depth drilling a large diameter hole and pulling them out that way must be a last resort. Building or dropping in a temporary dam wall, or caisson, and pumping the water down may be the quickest and easiest way.
Pure speculation on my part.

Can the drilling equipment be got to a position to drill?
How stable is the geology in that area?
"Communications" (Roads for transport) seems "poor".

why on earth were children of that age taken into a cave system in the wet season and which was clearly not that accessible even when dry?
IT
they cannot possible be 800m below the surface!
i think the thought is to enlarge at least one part but horizontally, but not convinced of the practicality
at least there are highly experienced cave divers on hand (british of course!) to give guidance and perhaps even to get the children out one by one with a diver-guide
the worry will be a child panicking in what is certainly a tricky and potentially dangerous operation
