THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Thanks, Dil. That's what my £5 is on.

Meanwhile, out there in the rest of the world....

Asian stocks fell as investors assessed the outlook for global growth with no end in sight for trade tensions.

US stocks rose as a rise in energy stocks and Apple helped overcome another flare-up in trade tensions.

UK stocks edged down on Tuesday amid rising tensions between Washington and Beijing, while Ashtead rose on results.

Headlines
The substantial impact of the financial crisis has left people's wages 3% below what they were a decade ago, new research reveals. The analysis done for the BBC by the Institute for Fiscal Studies shows that on average people's real annual wages are £800 lower. And that people who are aged between 30 and 39 now are earning £2,100 a year less than people of the same age group in 2008.

More than 250 free-to-use cash machines are disappearing a month as operators shut unprofitable ones, the network co-ordinator Link has said. There are 53,000 free machines in the UK - but the number is shrinking at a record rate as people use less cash. Now the Payment Services Regulator is cracking down on the closures and asking for more network protection.

Boris Johnson is spot on: 'Chequers' is far worse than staying in EU

May says £39bn bill (payment?) is linked to Brexit deal. Hmmm? That's not how most of us see it.

May is a disaster, she has to go and the UK Tories discuss it. However, Jacob Rees-Mogg denies his Brexiteer group is plotting against Theresa May

Imagine having the full support of Reasy-Mogg.

cynic - 12 Sep 2018 17:26 - 81212 of 81564

if JRM, BJ and others of similar hue bring down the gov't, for whom would they then vote in a forced GE?

would they and their followers abstain, thus allowing in Corbyn and the far-left by default?
but hang on a minute ...... Corbyn is about to be forced to support remaining within EU by the unions

fred of course would be delighted and not care even if his pension fund was seized, for he knows he has not long to live

and what about all you rabids on this site?
it'll do no good beating your breasts in anguish, wailing and gnashing your teeth that your taxes have ballooned in addition to remaining within EU AND under a far left-wing gov't

Haystack - 12 Sep 2018 18:03 - 81213 of 81564

No matter what the state of May, there won't be a GE. We have a fixed term parliament. The DUP will always vote with the government on a vote of confidence. The Conservatives will survive as the government for a few years yet. The boundary changes will make it virtually impossible for Labour to win a GE under Corbyn.

Well, I say you should let the Adulterer and the Undertaker try to bring down Maggie Dismay! If nothing else, it could make a good plot for a new Batman movie.

:o)

Manuel,

The stupidity of Brexit seems to be coming home to you.

But I believed you thought that Osborne and Cameron were geniuses when they proposed it.

I have sent Jeremy and Mcdonnell your home address in order that they can examine your books to arrange for you to pay a little extra taxes to help others out.

-=-=-=

But, if you look back through this thread you will see early on, that I said the final "solution" may be that the "llttle uk" will be outside the EU and still attempting to trade with it, but having accept EU "rules and regulations", but unable to modify, alter or take part in ongoing review of them.

Also, accepting the reduction of London as the long-term centre of the financial services. Probably relying more and more on its survival as a cheap tourist resort.

Taxation will, of course, will have to be raised to pay for its failing economy.

-=-=-=-=-=

Fred1new - 12 Sep 2018 20:31 - 81216 of 81564

PS.

The worst effect of the so-called Brexit is that we will be seen to have excluded "ourselves" from the EU on grounds of self-interest and superiority and the Europeans will politely say to "hell with the UK" and prefer to deal with their "uncomplicated" neighbours who belong to the same "club".

Whatever is said by some, the UK is a little country and it's economic "world significance" is gradually diminishing.

Also, its appeal to postgraduates for "university" research etc. due to more confusing proposals on "immigration etc." is lessening, they are going elsewhere where they are accepted more readily by some.

The days of the Raj are over.

Theresa May's Chequers plan dealt a blow after DUP MPs back rival Northern Ireland proposal from Jacob Rees-Mogg

Theresa May’s Brexit plans have been dealt a blow after the Democratic Unionist Party backed a rival plan drawn up by Tory rebels to allow the UK to leave the EU's single market and customs union without a hard border in Ireland.

The European Research Group published a paper calling for equivalence of UK and EU regulations and conformity assessment for all agricultural goods on the island of Ireland.

The plan - which is at odds with the Mrs May's Brexit proposal which was agreed by her Cabinet out at her Chequers country home - was immediately backed by the DUP, whose 10 MPs are keeping the Mrs May’s Government in power.

Poland have been under investigation since 2017 for constantly breaking EU rules.

Hungary are now also under EU investigation for constantly breaking EU rules.

Ultimate penalty for each country is suspension from the EU if all other member states besides the one in question agree.

Hungary has told Poland not to worry as it will back them and Poland are expected now to do the same for Hungary.

The EU now consider this a much bigger threat to its future than Brexit.

This is the type of democracy that Fred would have us remain in.

It's a no from me Fred.

What about the EU breaking it's own rules to promote monster Martin Selmayr, guess that's ok then.

cynic - 13 Sep 2018 09:43 - 81220 of 81564

i do not believe exiting EU is stupid at all
how one reaches that goal was always going to be very difficult and convoluted

Fred1new - 13 Sep 2018 19:53 - 81221 of 81564

Horray for chaos.

Stupidity is as mighty as the sword.

Long live the winners.

F the losers.

Meanwhile back in the real world is it just me or does anyone else think by Putin sticking the equivalent of the Russians chuckle brothers on TV he is just sticking two fingers up to the west and saying yes we did it but what are/can you do about it ?

Salisbury Carhedral a worldwide known landmark ??? Feck me , half the UK at least don't know where the bloody hell Salisbury is !

In fairness Putin has got a sense of humour.

Who wouldn't travel all the way from Russia to clock this? So good it is worth seeing twice. If it goes missing, we know who to blame.
