Thanks TP and Opti. Photorescue worked almost too easily. Makes one wonder how much deleted stuff is actually deleted. Quite alarming!

I'm glad you sorted it.
Not very much gets permanently deleted, even if you format a disk it is easily recoverable. If you want to delete a file properly, check out
Eraser which works well and will run stand alone if you get the portable version. If you don't like it, there are plenty more out there.

Optimist...I had to reformat the drive in the end...and re install windows
I had nothing on it anyway...
So back where I was before...will leave it alone for a while
Perhaps I just need a better monitor.
It was a small one...and a better graphics card

Microsoft used to include a great little program called Image Composer with their versions of FrontPage 98 and 2000. It was also available as a free download from the Microsoft website.
Unfortunately they discontinued the product a few years ago. I used to like it because it was much better than Paint (you could reposition/resize/delete the elements after they had been added to an image), but nowhere near as complicated as Photoshop (which I actually have, but can't get to grips with).
I would like to obtain version 1.5 of Image Composer, but all I find are dead links on the internet. Would anybody know where I could obtain a copy please?
Alternatively, would anybody be able to recommend a similar product that is available now please?

hilary.
I have a version of Frontpage 2003 on a CD in my studio.
I can have a look and see what is on the disk.
If I could see where Frontpage is/was installed on this PC I'd dig a bit deeper - but it seems to be hidden somewhere.
I'll be in touch.

Thanks, TP, but I have FP 2003 myself and Image Composer wasn't included with that version unfortunately.
Prior to that I had FP 98, but I can no longer find the CD for it. I seem to recollect that FP 98 included Image Composer 1.0 which ties in what what I've read elsewhere on the internet.

OK hilary.
Can't help then.
I use Picture Window Pro and not Photoshop. But it's almost inevitably a harder learning curve than you can justify - and re-reading your post it does not contain the undo properties you want.

Not to worry, TP. Thanks anyway.
Maybe if I can't get hold of a copy of Image Composer, somebody can recommend an alternative program that's easy to use but contains the undo properties that I'm looking for. Like I say, I've already got Photoshop, but that's way too complicated for what I need and I just can't get to grips with it.

hilary,
There is a 'history' facility in Picture Window Pro. I've never used it but I think it is there to enable one to unwind the changes they have made. I'll ask on the Bulletin Board for you.

I have a copy of Front Page 2000 which has Image Composer on. If you can accept a 30MB attachment I can send you the CD.
Email Me if you still need it.

Thanks for the links guys although, Doc, your Google search of Image Composer yielded a load of pictures of composers. I thought I was Brahms and Liszt for a moment!
:o)
Unfortunately a lot of those download links are dead and I haven't been able to find anything.
Opti,
Thanks for your kind offer, but 30 megs? I was under the impression that it was a seperate installation on CD2. Is there any chance you could confirm what's actually on the CD please? If the installation files are not so large, I wonder if an upload to a file sharing site might be possible.

Hilary,
I used my Picture Window Pro this morning.
It will undo using a Control Z.
It creates a History list of the things you have done to any image and you can go back to whatever stage you want.
As long as you are reasonably careful what you delete you never lose the ability to try different changes.
But it is a fully fledged image manipulation program and it may be more than you want to learn. On the other hand there is an active forum which is monitored daily by the man who created the software and by a lot of (photography) nerds like myself who love answering easy questions.
Photoshop is a graphics program adapted for photographers. PWP was written by a photographer for photographers.

I'm quite busy at the moment, but I'll mail you over the weekend if that's OK, Opti.

I've recently added a new printer, which has a built-in fax, to my set-up. And now my download speed has dropped from around 1.5meg to an alarming 0.4meg. Has the new printer/fax caused this? The phone wire comes from the master socket to a filter and then a splitter with one wire going to the printer and the other to the BT home hub. Any thoughts guys please before the BT engineer calls tomorrow morning?

I'm not sure what you mean by "a filter and then a splitter", but the home hub should be behind a splitter, on the ADSL side, with the fax and any telephone extensions on the telephone side. A splitter acts as a filter, you do not need a separate filter on that socket (although you would on any extension sockets in other parts of the house).
Bear in mind that BT will charge you for the visit if all they do is move your filters around.
