How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Federer - Kiefer just starting on 410 Eurosport UK. I do like these sociable hours matches :-) Can't be doing with these all-nighters.

Laid Fed 1.08 on break in 1st set - looking to scalp

Scripophilist - 27 Jan 2006 09:26 - 8247 of 10502

I'm watching but only have half an eye on it, as I have a conferance call starting in five minutes. Kiefer has taken a set from Fed several times I think so a Fed lay is a real possibility for me at some point, certainly at short odds.

bakko - 27 Jan 2006 09:57 - 8248 of 10502

Morning All

Only have the scoreboard to go by so can't see how well Fed is playing but seems to be OK

Just checked the head to head stats which show that they've played 4 times in 2005 with Fed winning all but Kiefer only taken 2 sets.

Fed v Kiefer head to head

Apparently, it's Kiefer's first time in the semis of a grand slam.

Mrs C certainly picks her time to call home with a puncture. Covered my position. Hopefully back for the fun and games later :-(

compoundup - 27 Jan 2006 11:08 - 8250 of 10502

Small question over Kiefer's ankle. Could spoil things for him now.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jan 2006 11:14 - 8251 of 10502

Morning all

Federer breaks - should be all over now?

compoundup - 27 Jan 2006 11:15 - 8252 of 10502

Fed break in 4th. All value gone.

Scripophilist - 27 Jan 2006 11:15 - 8253 of 10502

I grabbed 10% on the fed drift while on this call but glad to have closed out.

bakko - 27 Jan 2006 11:16 - 8254 of 10502

Edward

Kiefer's dodgy ankle...Was that the reason for losing 6-0 in the 3rd set?

compoundup - 27 Jan 2006 11:18 - 8255 of 10502

Don't know Bak, was fixing Mrs C's car :-)

Saw him favouring his ankle after couple of slides in 4th set. More value in resource stocks this morning - off to play them instead.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jan 2006 11:21 - 8256 of 10502

Now its game over

and Fed was 2.74 for that game :-)

Fundamentalist - 27 Jan 2006 11:34 - 8257 of 10502

Early start sunday morning for the final then

compoundup - 27 Jan 2006 11:34 - 8258 of 10502

I owe you a large drink for that Steve. You drew my attention to the game market and I got a decent sized bet on Fed to serve out at 1.11 :-))

bakko - 27 Jan 2006 11:36 - 8259 of 10502

Looking forward to the final which I think should be on BBC2 proper.

So if you're trading it don't be trading the delay on Eurosport!

compoundup - 27 Jan 2006 11:39 - 8260 of 10502

I live in a valley and can't get a watchable picture on terrestrial service but IMHO it's not an issue on the tennis.

Edward

no probs - i managed to get a profit out of the last 4 games :-)

Bak

8.30am start on BBC2 i believe

Fundamentalist - 27 Jan 2006 15:31 - 8262 of 10502

Crazy race at Fakenham this afternoon - they dolled off the last fence but the 1st 2 jockeys didnt see the flag so jumped it and subsequently were disqualified (after a 30 min delay) - the eventual winner was matched at 100+ in running and both the disqualified horses traded below 1.3 - a painful race for some

also seems like undeterred is missing a leg in 15.30 at Wolv - gone from 3.5 to 8.4

Fundamentalist - 27 Jan 2006 15:32 - 8263 of 10502

never put in the race, ran on well for 3rd (a familiar tale)

bakko - 27 Jan 2006 16:05 - 8264 of 10502

Steve

Your post @ 8262 gave me a bit of a scare! LOL

I had a pure bet on something earlier. Didn't recall venue or even name of horse and had to check my account to make sure I hadn't got hit.

Luckily it was all OK. Phew!
