How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Agreed John, this is Federer's day but there's money to be claimed in the game by game market

bakko - 29 Jan 2006 11:15 - 8290 of 10502

Just realised I'd been trading the "winner" rather than the "final" market this morning...LOL

Could have got a much bigger profit on wider swings with the final odds!

Harlosh - 29 Jan 2006 11:25 - 8291 of 10502

Should have had a lie in Bak. :-))

Lol John - good to have you back - glad you had a good break

see the Aussies have run riot in the cricket

bakko - 29 Jan 2006 11:33 - 8293 of 10502

John...Nah! My potential profit on Fed was worth the early wake up call.

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 11:36 - 8294 of 10502

Awesome from Federer but Bagdhatis has been the hero of the tournament for me - he has been brilliant to watch (and trade) wih a never say die attitude

bakko - 29 Jan 2006 11:36 - 8295 of 10502

Well done Federer :-)

Hats off to Bags for a brave fight and lighting up the tournament

Harlosh - 29 Jan 2006 11:39 - 8296 of 10502

See you chaps later for the football???????

Anyone lay the draw in the Pak v Ind test match - was odds on prior to the start and out to 10 before day 1 is over with 14 wickets gone already

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 15:31 - 8298 of 10502

Both Liverpool and Man U look very backable at 1.6 to me today - tempted by the 2.48 available for the double - just trying to find some team news - anyone else got any thoughts?

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 15:36 - 8299 of 10502

United team to play wolves, looks like a lot of defenders there - 5 at the back or a defender playing a holding role in midfield?

van da sar
nevile
silveste
ferdinand
brown
vidic
park
richardson
rooney
vanistelrooy
saha

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 15:55 - 8300 of 10502

Rio Ferdinand is playing in midfield lol

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 15:59 - 8301 of 10502

Looks like United playing 5 at the back and 5 upfront and not bothering with midfield looking at the team sheet lol

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 16:03 - 8302 of 10502

A central midfield of Ferdinand and Rooney - could be interesting to watch

bakko - 29 Jan 2006 16:06 - 8303 of 10502

Steve

Rio could score today. LOL!

He has a personal wager with his brother Anton to score the most by the end of the season. Rio is currently ahead 3-2

Bak

happy days - have lumped on Utd and had a small bet on the double with the scousers

1-0 inside 5 mins :-)

bakko - 29 Jan 2006 16:07 - 8305 of 10502

Damn....Didn't even get the chance to get a trade in cos I was writing the last post!

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 16:10 - 8306 of 10502

Bak

had a shocker on the horses today so was chasing a bit but back on a level keel now :-)

bit frustrated cos i traded a couple of poor races and hence turned off to walk the dog and forgot to back Brave Inca in the big Irish hurdle as planned - got back in turned on the telly to watch it jump the last and romp home

compoundup - 29 Jan 2006 16:17 - 8307 of 10502

Having a rare chance to play the horses. 6 out of 6 so far and getting worried about spoiling the run after clearing Monday's target on the tennis this morning :-)

Don't know nuffink about football - still you'll be telling me that's no handicap, just like pattern trading NASDAQ stocks. The fundamentals don't matter. It is just whether the price is moving and you can capture some of it. lol

Fundamentalist - 29 Jan 2006 16:18 - 8308 of 10502

Well done Edward - couple of those good trades were probably my bad ones lol
