How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

fundy thanks for in depth answer with a high street bookie they would take 4 out of the 7 that would leave 3 then divide your stake by 3 then settle it for all 4 that finished tied.what they done have appears incorrect the bet i had was lucas glover 100 pound backed at 3.00 what they have credited is 100 pound.

Fundamentalist - 30 Jan 2006 19:14 - 8357 of 10502

woodie - why take 4 out of the 7 not 3 out of the 7 ? that doesnt make sense to me - that would mean they are settling as if one of the 4 tied players had finished 4th on his own

i think your bet should be settled as follows:

2 halfs of 50 each

50 lose
50 at 3.0 = 150

Total = 150-50 = 100

WOODIE - 30 Jan 2006 19:27 - 8358 of 10502

the reason for taking out 4 of the 7 is because the the issue is with the last place 5th position ie 7 finished in the first four take away 4 places that leaves a total of 3 for the last place therefore stake divided by 3.

There's a sad side to this racing game. I backed Toon Trooper yesterday, well clear two out, fell and was killed.
Later on I backed Phar Out Favourite, well in contention three out but probably wouldn't have won, fell and was killed.
Though thinking I was probably in a jinxy day, I backed Umbrella Man a bit later.
Had an attack of Here we go again! when it went comfortably clear in the straight but it survived (and so did I), it won well and all finished OK.
But sad nevertheless.

Schiff

yesterdays racing was at two of the worst NH tracks for this. The fences at Southwell are too upright, which leads to the type of somersault falls that were seen yesterday and often prove fatal. As for Ludlow, having run 3 times in 3 weeks the ground is destroyed and there are potholes all over the course (they dont employ treaders either!). Both of the serious falls there yesterday were as a result of Horses losing their footing.

I have to admit i turned off yesterday as I dont enjoy watching jump racing at either track

The one dayer been good to trade so far, now heavily green on SA and not planning to change it (got to go out at 10am but will leave my stop in the system though dont expect it to be needed)

bakko - 31 Jan 2006 11:52 - 8361 of 10502

On the SA v SL cricket here as well.

Had a stroke of luck when jumping on SA before setting off for work at 1.67 when SL were 5 wickets down. The subsequent over 2 more wickets fell!

SA are cruising along and my green is sitting very pretty at the moment.

Fundamentalist - 31 Jan 2006 12:28 - 8369 of 10502

nice one john good work

thursday good for me - mid morning start?
sctn in danger of failing its breakout and hwy appears to have failed :-(

Harlosh - 31 Jan 2006 12:57 - 8370 of 10502

See you thursday then.

On the basis of the rise in the market over the past few days perhaps not unreasonable for a pull back Steve. Will have a look at the charts tonight after market close.

Neither score card for the zagreb any good now. Just trading from what I can see of the odds.

bakko - 31 Jan 2006 13:03 - 8371 of 10502

a massive gamble going on on Barnewy Curleys Mad Maurice in the 2.50 (his horses tend to finish first or last depending on whether the money is down - and its clearly down today - backed from 3.5 to 2.3

Scripophilist - 31 Jan 2006 14:52 - 8374 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 31 Jan 2006 14:53 - 8375 of 10502
