Welcome to MoneyAM.
Today sees the launch of MoneyAM, a bright new financial website for the smart investor. Our aim is quite simple: we aim to become the UK's leading web-based supplier of shares related content and data.
Streaming real time share prices, up to the minute portfolios, live city news, email alerts, bulletin boards, company fundamentals plus expert analysis supplied by the same award-winning team of journalists, analysts and researchers that produce Shares Magazine every week. These are just some of the great features that MoneyAM provides free to anyone who registers on the site.
Our premium paid for services are compelling and competitively priced and a must for the serious investor/trader. Unlimited level 1, FTSE indices, alerts, Premium market scan tools and the Traders Room (Bulletin Board) are just some of the extras on offer. Level 2 services will be coming to MoneyAM very soon!!!
We hope you enjoy using the site.
Regards
Mike Boydell

Hello All, sad to see MAM leaving the scene, I don't remember when I joined but it was near the start.
Bully and the late great Derek (and probably many others) did a great job putting it all together and I spend many happy hours reading valuable info from knowledgeable traders and even more hours having fun, I even looked after a couple of non serious threads that ran for a while.
I guess this is goodbye to MAM, best wishes to all involved and goodbye to all the people I met through this great site.
PS I just had a quick chat with my old mate Lambkins and he said he tried to login to say goodbye but his account seems to have been deleted, so he can't say goodbye.
PPS can't say goodbye without remembering some some of the people we lost along the way especially David Anderson and Malcolm Green and of course Derek Lambert

i have no wish to receive Shares Magazine ..... i used to and did not find it particularly useful
that being so, does one assume that there will no longer be a FREE BB and FREE charets and similar?

It looks like:
1. They can't make the current arrangements pay.
2. A big win for ADVFN.
3. I will have to rely on my broker for the times that, as an investor and not a trader, I need live prices.
4. It has just been getting more difficult for anyone to start out as a private investor over the last number of years; with the huge amount of paperwork to get started and the reducing access to information, without paying significant amounts of money.

So is there no one on here with the expertise to just set up a website with say just a forum to start with and then build on it later?

What surprises me is that I am really struggling to find something similar for live prices and level 2 so I would have thought it a niche business with some pricing power.
Anyone got a good level 2 provider?

Stan. There are plenty of free stock related and general BBs such as the lse.co.uk one.

for genuine live prices, i use IG L2 platform, but of course i am also a client of theirs
some of you guys might like to consider migrating to FAR9 thread on ADVFN

Yes H/S I know but I just thought it would be nice to continue to exchange views with some on here.

at least the FAR9 thread is generally civilised, though it might need a "sub-section" to allow for more general chitchat

Juzzle I have tried to have intelligent conversations on T2W over the years but I'm afraid there were to many yobo responses so I don't bother posting now.
I even got some to come to our "Birmingham Pie and a Pint" evenings that Fred set up years ago.

uk.finance.yahoo.com might be worth a look . Not one I have used but seems to offer a certain amount of info for free.
Digitallook gone as has been taken over.
LondonSouthEast is well frequented, but dogged by idiots, imo.
Motley Fool still exists, but a bit dull, though can be informative.
Not found anywhere recently which offers L2 to the same standard as MAM.

Stan,
It's actually very easy to set up a forum. You need some hosting (preferably a VPS - 15 € a month), and there are plenty of bulletin board scripts out there (eg. phpBB which is free, or vBulletin which is premium) which can be themed in any style and colours you fancy.
That would only take a few days to set up, but, unfortunately, that's the point in time that the real problems start. First off, the new forum would have zero content and no users. So, you've somehow got to attract enough people (probably 50 at least) who would be willing to donate the tme to populate the new forum with threads and posts, and create an amiable community. Then you've got the problem of moderation - tempers sometimes fray on contentious issues (especially once the pubs shut), in addition to which the forum will get inundated with spam where robots and seo 'specialists' from India and Pakistan post backlinks which trash threads. Then there's the problem of a lack of serps experienced by all new websites with low budgets, which will result in poor search engine positioning and a total absence of new visitors. Then there's the problem of monitisation - if somebody's gonna shell out each month to keep the thing alive, they're gonna need to put adverts on the forum of some description to help towards the bills.
Seriously, I could carry on forever listing the problems....
