How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

sorry to go of topic can someone look at this answer from betfair and see if you would be happy with the answer.
You staked 100 at odds of 3. The event was a 'dead heat' and,
therefore, the stake is halved. 50 of your stake is a winning bet and
settled at the odds of 3. Therefore, your winnings on this part of
your stake are 100. However, your losing stake (1) is then deducted
to determine your return. Thus, your total profit/loss on the bet is
50. This amount has been credited/debited to your 'Account Balance'.
my grip is they halved the stake then deducted it again.

I always use an old-fashioned way!
Halve the SP and deduct a half - to your stake.
ie. 1.5 less 0.5 = 1, which means, by my way of thinking that you win 100.
They seem to be wrong and it's well worth pursuing. Let's know how you get on.

Woodie, I have always been confused by the dead heat calculations but my understanding is they half your profit on the horse, I think...

Woodie
treat it as 2 separate bets of 50
1 wins at 3.0, the other loses
Bet 1 has a profit of 100
Bet 2 has a loss of 50
Net result is a profit of 50

This is copied from Betfair's own rules and actually supports what they have done.
I think it's a swiz but I'll have a look at a conventional bookie's rules and post again.
"What happens if there is a dead heat?
A dead heat is calculated by dividing the stake proportionally between the number of winners in the event. So, in a two-way dead heat (2 winners) for example, your return will be half of what it could have been. This can be referred to as half-face value of the bet, or a bet for half the original stake.
For example:
Initial bet = 30 @ 11 (1 expected winner - 2 dead heat for first)
Half-face value of ticket: 30 @ 11 divided by 2 = 165
or
Half-stake: 15 @ 11 winning bet = 165
The profit of the bet equals the total return minus total stake: 165 - 30.00 = 135"

schiff thats my grip they have reduced it twice 1/2 the stake then again at the end, i phoned them but wont admit there wrong. they have credited money in my account of 50 pound which is half of the originel stake no winnings.lets hope this does not happen to often
