How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

welcome, my views fwiw

1) Scrip is the guy to ask as he runs the courses
2) I wouldnt get the Pro version till you understand betfair, the markets and some basic strategies. Until you are comfortable with each of these then the Pro version is likely to confuse you more than help you
3) The initial start point is to understand the concepts of backing and laying on betfair, how the site works and getting a feel for liquidity and spread (these concepts should come easy to you). Then you need to get a feel for why prices and move and which direction they are likely to move in. Once youve done that, its a case of applying certain strategies which you could slowly work out on a try it and see basis for small stakes, though ultimately its a lot quicker and easier to have these presented and demonstarted to you and backed up with statistics (the course im afraid)

Hope this is of some help, feel free to ask any further questions as were a pretty friendly bunch on the thread

stockpick - as we're neighbours, if you like to send me an email, I'll give you my details. I don't have the betangel s/w, but can help you with the basics of Betfair.

patriotic yes - stupid no

Dil - 04 Feb 2006 10:00 - 8530 of 10502

lol

over 3.5 tries at 1.43 and Wales with a 26.5pts start at 1.23 look good value

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 10:03 - 8531 of 10502

England off levels is a shorter price than Wales with a 26.5 pt handicap. When did England last win by 27pts?

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 10:04 - 8532 of 10502

Id have thought over 0.5 tries for Wales look fairly good value too -

Dil - 04 Feb 2006 10:09 - 8533 of 10502

Yeah if we can get the ball off the big fat ugly English fowards !

Missed that one , will wait til 11.30pm then decide what to do. I hate uncertainty so won't leave any open bets in the market before I go out.

This would be a great game to stay home and trade but duty calls :-)

Dil - 04 Feb 2006 11:28 - 8534 of 10502

Had some of Wales at 8.4 , over 0.5 Welsh tries and Wales with a 26.5pts start.

Have a good day all ... i'm outta here :-)

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 15:44 - 8535 of 10502

Have had a lump on Wales +26.5 at 1.3 and some kind soul just gave me 1.99 for 100 at 0-0 after 5 mins lol

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 17:03 - 8536 of 10502

glad i got out at 1.08 - another converted try will see this done by 0.5 pts

good to see Dallaglio back :-)

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 17:06 - 8537 of 10502

Hi Steve

Only caught the 2nd half of rugby but Eng seemed to have struggled until the last 10-15mins.

Too many mistakes from both teams

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 17:10 - 8539 of 10502

Bak

been a pretty poor game as both sides have turned over so much ball but ultimately England have just been too big and too strong up front for the Welsh

PS Birmingham must be one hell of poor side not to score against Arsenals makeshift defense today

bakko - 04 Feb 2006 17:14 - 8540 of 10502

I was scalping Eng throughout the 2nd half and must admit to feeling quite nervous as could have got caught out at any moment but have a safe profit now.

Fundamentalist - 04 Feb 2006 17:15 - 8541 of 10502

Ive only played the handicap markets as couldnt see any value in the match odds but got a nice profit on both the +16.5 and the +26.5 markets :-)

at least wales scored 1 try - might have limited Dils liability a fraction

bakko - 04 Feb 2006 17:17 - 8542 of 10502

Will you be watching Man U next?

bakko - 04 Feb 2006 17:24 - 8543 of 10502

Man U 1-0 up
