Interesting Kim, as my broker said that if I do nothing, they will accept on my behalf. My other option was to refuse the offer. As the offer seems to be exceptional in today's market, I am surprised your broker didn't take the same stance. Perhaps they were hoping for a counter bid? Or maybe they were hoping to pick up your shares on the cheap???

Probably the latter Harrycat! They've had a few today!!

i am very surprised anyone could trade or if they could, then it meant that they had not committed (very foolish) ..... CFDs had to be declared a couple of days ago, and in IGs case (thus probably everyone), that meant your position was frozen

RBC Capital Markets predicted last week that if the deal was to collapse, the shares would fall to 270-500p/share .... do you think these guys had a big short position?

Cynic, my deadline for accepting the offer was 23rd, I wasn't feeling easy about the gap between that date and final acceptance without having control of the shares, hence my decision to not accept. If the acceptance level had been 75% not 90%, I would not have hesitated in taking the offer.
I think RBC were erring on the side of caution......a bit like me I suppose!

Actually, I don't feel that bad about it. I hoped that the shares I traded would eventually be taken by someone who would prefer to see the offer succeed, and therefore take up the offer by today's deadline; after all, it would have been in their own interests to do so. I very much doubt that the success/failure of the offer would hinge on the shares of a few day traders.

if you were out of all positions, the fair enough, as someone would have then declared one way or another ...... however, as i undersatnd it, once IGs deadline had passed on 23rd, all existing positions were effectively frozen and further trading, other than to settle existing uncommitted positions, was not possible .... i know, because i tried to open a new position after 23rd

I don't know cynic, maybe IG works in a different way? NatWest Stockbrokers had no hold over my shares, I could, and did, trade them as I pleased. I know 500 is only a small number, but in fact I sold 450 just before the close, leaving me with 50 'free' shares and a tidy profit from my traded ones. I will jump into the river Clwyd if the bid fails by 50 (after having eaten my, as yet unbought, hat)! Any possible threat to the offer would have originated in a country other than UK IMO.

How deep is the river Clwyd? For all we know it might only be a gently tinkling stream!!! :o)

Dipped my toe in, just in case, cynic! CFDs?, ah yes, I understand now. My way isn't as exciting I guess!

good news bad news with CFDs is of course the gearing possible, though with stocks like IEC one has to put up 25% anyway

Well, I forgot about that if you accepted the offer that your shares would be suspended, if I had not voted in favour, I would have sold today just before close of play !.

No tax with CFDs though?
RF, I'm sure you will be glad you weren't able to sell, I think the closing price looks a little too high for the bid to fail. I hope I'm right.
