I can't see why nokia would decide to developer their own client! the swerve tech from SPS is based on Java and that has been accepted as the standard/way forward. i personally think nokia will have to use it or play catch-up. linked gaming using bluetooth could be a big market for the future (especially in asia), but i also see swerve being used to snazz-up the menu systems too.

It would be nice to see some evidence that Nokia was using an alternative engine, they part sponsored the Java standard JSR184 which forms the basis for Swerve along with Superscape. The intuition is therefore that the two have already been in some form of negotiation. Also, as Superscape are developing for Sony, it would appear logical that a deal with Erricson shouldn't suprise. If, and it is a big if, Superscape signed both, this share would rise significantly. The premise being that it would have achieved the holy grail of a monopoly software supplier and IP holder in mobile telephony. Shareholders should see this potential as a bonus rather than given. The long term position for Superscape should be to develop Swerve as the defacto engine for developing software and pursue games development to generate long term revenues. Any agreement with a manufacturer in conjunction with Arm should be viewed as a very significant bonus but Citywire have quoted Superscape as implying that they are talking to Nokia!

i agree with your comments, but i would add that SPS could gain substantially from the Asian market. Mobile games are big in Japan and they don't use Nokia's that much! Nokia is the biggest supplier, and is probably the most used handsets in Europe, but games are huge in Asia. So whether or not Nokia is signed I think SPS future looks rosey.

Oh and the 3G Mobile World Forum is to be held in Tokyo (13-16th January 2004).

Another day when the Nas rises to new highs.The UK tech sector has,to some extent,been left behind and is due a major rally. The possible upside to SPS makes it a definate BUY and hold at present levels.

Reckon we should see 35p offer again soon.

DUESSELDORF (AFX) - Nokia Corp is considering using its 12 bln eur war chest
to make acquisitions in the multimedia sector this year, the head of its
multimedia business, Anssi Vanjoki, said in an interview in the German magazine
WirtschaftsWoche to appear tomorrow.
"Acquisitions are always a possibility when you have the financial means.
Nokia has nearly 12 bln eur in the till," Vanjoki said.
He said any acquisitions would be concentrated in areas where Nokia does not
have scope for organic growth.
"In marketing, logistics and brand management, we do not need to buy because
we are already ahaed," he said.
"But why shouldn't we buy in (the areas of) technology or content? If an
acquisition would help us to get into a market more quickly, we will seize the
opportunity," he added.
Vanjiki said Nokia is targeting a profitable multimedia business by the
year-end, he said.

The counter to any bid from a predator for SPS would be a bid by ARM. The premise by which ARM is so succesful in marketing it's chips are the additional functionalities offered. One of the major benefits of the ARM 9 core processor is that swerve is essentially embedded in the chip, this enables it to run games faster than any alternatives, requires less memory to run and to store the binaries. This is also why Superscape's technology has achieved so many licenses. Arm would not let superscape go without a fight and as a major holder with around 1% of the shares and supporter of the company in the recent fundraising, the two seem to have a very close bond!

Recruiter, following my visit to the EGM I can confirm that Superscape are still actively working with Vodafone whom I believe are insisting on JSR184 enabled phones from their suppliers for Vodafone Live. Vodafone are such a large company that SPS have never been able to pin them down to a press release about their partnership activities. Hope that helps.

There is an escalation of new 3G phones shipped with PSION's SymbianOS on Vodafone 3G network and the huge demand for 3D Graphical User Interface content & software for mobile personal & corporate computing and 3D Games on NOKIA phones.
