How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Well done Bak.

With regard to horses worth keeping an eye on I see Barney Curley is running Ndola in the 3.40 at Lingfield tomorrow - worth keeping an eye on the betting pattern, but be careful to weight for the serious money to come in - his horses tend to go one way or the other

Scripophilist - 05 Feb 2006 22:33 - 8669 of 10502

Thanks Steve, I'll keep an eye on it.

Its an odd one scrip because it has had fair form on the AW (winning last time out) but has been over jumps recently with absolutely no success (best was 6th out of 9 in 4 races) so very hard to rate its chances - the ideal scenario for the trainer lol

gonna watch the start of the superbowl - hopefully ill stay awake till half time to see the stones!!!

Scripophilist - 06 Feb 2006 10:28 - 8671 of 10502

I almost stayed up for the Superbowl but too tired. Family has been ill so I have done well not to fall it as well. Totally shattered though. Hopefully will have a good day this afternoon to lift my spirits.

I did and am absolutely shattered having been woken to take the missus to the station first thing this morning. Shame the first ODI between India and Pakistan wasnt in play today - would have been a good one to trade

crockham - 06 Feb 2006 14:08 - 8673 of 10502

can someone tell me what time delay there is on watching ATR

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 14:44 - 8674 of 10502

crockham

its approx 3 seconds behind

crockham - 06 Feb 2006 15:18 - 8675 of 10502

thanks
just enough to make a difference in play

Scripophilist - 06 Feb 2006 15:42 - 8676 of 10502

Ndola drifts before the off!

Scripophilist - 06 Feb 2006 15:43 - 8677 of 10502

Interesting chart!

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 15:44 - 8678 of 10502

crockham

definitely too much to make in play viable and less you are doing so very early in the race

Scrip

hope you enjoyed the drifting barge called Ndola - 3.1 to 7.2 with many swings in between - daily target reached on one race - good Ole Barney lol

Scripophilist - 06 Feb 2006 15:46 - 8679 of 10502

And it losses! Shock!

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 15:46 - 8680 of 10502

To quote the commentator
"ndola is dropping out quickly"

oh quelle surprise lol

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 15:50 - 8681 of 10502

Scrip

just under 250K traded on ndola, an equivalent priced horse in that sort of race would normally attract 50-70K

Scripophilist - 06 Feb 2006 15:54 - 8682 of 10502

We watched that one closely from here and did well. Thanks Steve for pointing it out. We actually watched the race as well for once!
