How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

To quote the commentator
"ndola is dropping out quickly"

oh quelle surprise lol

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 15:50 - 8681 of 10502

Scrip

just under 250K traded on ndola, an equivalent priced horse in that sort of race would normally attract 50-70K

Scripophilist - 06 Feb 2006 15:54 - 8682 of 10502

We watched that one closely from here and did well. Thanks Steve for pointing it out. We actually watched the race as well for once!

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 16:05 - 8683 of 10502

No probs scrip

i try to keep an eye out for any suspicious ones which will ultimately always have bigger swings on them

we? you not trading alone these days?

bakko - 06 Feb 2006 16:21 - 8684 of 10502

A very interesting race just watching the odds alone.

I'll be keeping tabs on Barney's horses from now on.

Bak

i hope you did more than just watch bak!!!
more than any other trainer the market will tell you how the horse will run

"we? you not trading alone these days? "

I speak to others during the day, it seems to help maintain a certian level of focus. Cracking day today.

We have been receiving calls from a number of Exchange users telling us they cannot access our markets properly and get a constant 'Loading' message.

This issue seems mainly to be affecting AOL users.

We have found that the following has worked in the vast majority of cases:

Delete cookies and Temporary Internet Files:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools and then Internet Options. The Internet Options popup window displays.
3. Please delete your Temporary Internet Files from this window.
4. Click Settings in Temporary Internet Files. This will bring up another popup window. Ensure this is set to 'Check for newer versions of the stored pages' on 'Every time you visit the page'. Additionally, make sure that your amount of disk space to use is set to about 500 -600 MB.
5. Click View Files in the Settings box.
6. Select all files (press Ctrl +A to do this quickly) and press Delete (or CTRL+D). This will delete all files, including your cookies.
7. Close the Settings box by clicking OK.
8. Clear your History.

Then click on 'Advanced' at top right. Slide the scroll bar halfway down until you see 'HTTP 1.1 SETTINGS' in the list on the left.

1. Untick the box just above 'HTTP 1.1 Settings' marked 'Use Smooth Scrolling'
2. Untick the box marked 'Use HTTP 1.1 Through Proxy Connections.'

Click on 'Apply' at bottom right, then shut down your PC and restart.

When connecting to the internet, open your AOL connection, then minimise the page and open Internet Explorer. Type www.betfair.com in the address bar and click on 'Go'.

If this is unsuccessful please try using a Firefox Browser instead of Internet Explorer. This can be downloaded for free by going to http://www.mozilla.com and clicking on the green Download Firefox button.

Please let us know if you are still having problems with markets loading

SA vs Sri Lanka game starting at 11am - crucial game to see who plays Aus in the final

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 22:41 - 8692 of 10502

Looks like SA may be without Pollock or he may just play as a batsman - if so will leave them woefully short of bowling with Ntini, Nel and Kallis already out

Fundamentalist - 06 Feb 2006 22:52 - 8693 of 10502

Pollock fit to play and bowl but SL win toss and bat first

Fundamentalist - 07 Feb 2006 05:44 - 8694 of 10502

Well I traded well up till the interval and then like a complete muppet since. Got a pretty nasty looking book with 20 overs left - gonna need some luck to get out of this one with a profit

Fundamentalist - 07 Feb 2006 05:59 - 8695 of 10502

The nice Sri Lankan spinners have got me out of a nasty hole with a small profit - not worth staying up but a lot better than it could have been

WOODIE - 07 Feb 2006 06:28 - 8696 of 10502
