How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Never in doubt!

I didn't have a bet though, family is still ill so catching up on some long overdue paperwork while none of them are rushing back and forth to the sink to be sick! Can't understand how I am not ill yet.

What a laugh! They spend several fortunes on players and the last time I saw a pitch like that was when I played for an amateur team on park pitches in 1900 and something.

Scripophilist - 08 Feb 2006 20:51 - 8716 of 10502

I must be watching a different match I can't see a football pitch anywhere.

Hi, Can someone please advise on this, recently I placed a bet on betfred (shop) on african nations cup, Drogba top goal scorer 6/1 and ivory coast to win 4/1, the bet was a 5.00 double win. The bet was accepted at the shop and they duly took my money (also had win double on eto, cameroon), they are now saying that this is a related bet and they are now only going to take as 2.50 singles..... Is this correct, surely if they have accepted the bet and taken my money this bet should stand as the original bet states? Not my fault their staff don't know their jobs???? Any info would be appreciated...

adie look at the rules on www.betfred.co.uk.

Fundamentalist - 09 Feb 2006 13:22 - 8720 of 10502

Adie

i have to agree with them that they are related bets though this should have been pointed out at the time. With hindsight, at the time you should have asked them for a "combined" price, which would have ultimately been lower than a straight double but higher than two singles

Ultimately im afraid the bookies are covered by outdated rules falling under the category of palpable error which enable them to get away with effectively changing the bet after they have accepted it. Put it like this, if IC had gone on to win and Drogba hadnt been top scorer would they have still paid out on the winning single - no theyd have settled it as a losing double!!! Sad to say but they get to have their cake and eat it!!!

Scrip. re-BAPro. A quick note to say that some of the enhancements that are visible to the user which you brought in in the latest revision are really beneficial, thanks.

Annualised percentage return on Betfair since your course and using BetAngel has consistently outperformed UK and US trading portfolios for me - and no I'm not saying "smaller losses" ;-)

AdieH - 09 Feb 2006 13:44 - 8722 of 10502

Yeah thought that would be the case, thanks for your input fundamentalist its a learning curve, just hope the double doesn't come in now... Anyone else got any long football bets i.e. premiership league winners or first division?

Fundamentalist - 09 Feb 2006 14:09 - 8723 of 10502
